Disabling Update Check

Hi, I've been a long time Fences user who is still using Version 3.0.1 and thought it might be time to update to Version 5.  I tried installing the current version but had problems getting a product code that would be accepted.  I finally gave up and re-installed Version 3.0.1 and everything seemed to be OK, the product code originally provided with this version was accepted.  I guess I should have heeded the old adage "If it's ain't broke, don't fix it".

The only problem is that now I'm getting daily pop-ups asking me if I'd like to update to the current version.  After a bit of searching I found this link:

https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1331757077/How+do+I+disable+update+check+in+Fences%3F#Stardock-Version:

I ran the batch file provided by Upgrade.zip and it seemed to work - it created a registry entry "HKCU\Software\Stardock\Settings SupressAutoUpdate" with a value of 1.

Then I rechecked the "How To..." web page I belatedly saw "This will only work on Fences 3.05 or greater."

So, any suggestions on how to shut off this check/prompt?

Mike

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. You should first try to update to Fences v3.16. the latest version should be available in your account download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Once that is done, you can run the batch file. Try that and report back.

Thank you.

I have 3.1.6 and have the same issue. I'm thoroughly tired of these update requests, they occur every day and interfere with other apps that I am using. There is no Stardock entry in Windows Task Scheduler and the UpdateCheck does not work. It opens, I can enter D to disable & the command window immediately closes. There has to be a better solution

Please try the suggested steps I post in your own thread: https://forums.stardock.com/533303.
