DesktopX Security..

What DX version do you have installed? In the latest versions that is no longer available.

This will be added back in future builds - however, note that it is only intended for non-commercial (home) use. If you want support for it as a full security solution, buy DesktopX Pro.

I think blax that you may be misinterpreting what those options are intended for (were intended for?)

As I understand it, they are supposed to disable the use of right click to get to the desktop menu to prevent people then getting to whatever settings they might otherwise mess with on that menu. I don't think it then passes through those right clicks to other apps which may be waiting for a right click...I could be wrong, but my interpretation is that the right clicks are still trapped but are ignored.

What you want is:

Right click => Desktop X and is passed on to=> litestep

But what I think happens is:

right click => Desktop X which throws it away

..but I'm sure someone can confirm this?...

...as an idea, can anyone suggest a way that litestep might be made to run as the topmost app, and then catch the right click before DesktopX? i.e. if you run litestep after DX, would litestep be able to usurp DX as the topmost event catcher for the desktop area?

...or, would that need to be the other way around, so that litestep could establish itself as top most and then DX would have to settle for 2nd place? ...I'm making a lot of assumptions here about how DX works based on how I know windows works generally, but those boffins at StarDock may well have implemented things in a completely novel way....

The second update of the day for DX2 is now available thru SDC...the 'Security Options' have been restored....

yrag - can you confirm my suspicions about how the security option works though as I don't think blax is actually going to get what they want even now?

As far as the context of his question regarding DX2 settings, then those have been restored to the original DX security settings. My assumption is that he used those settings with Litestep prior to their removal and that it worked as he wanted......

DX security? It didn't work for me. It completely destroyed my computer!!! I had to reformat my computer and lost everything, my Mp3 collection, videos, pictures, softwares etc.

When I selected all of those "security features", everything seems to work fine. But when I shutdown my computer for the night and turn it back on the next day, I couldn't get the right-click menu, or the task manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

What's worst is that I couldn't use the Task keys. Then I come to find out that I couldn't unload or restart DX.

So I thought I could just reboot, but that failed as well. I thought I had some spyware in my registry, but I discovered that I can't edit my registry anymore!

A few hours later, I found out that my station is locked down, passwords couldn't be changed, the Run and Search dialog disappear from my start menu including that Logoff button!!! Tried loging on as another user, but that failed as well!!!
I'm kidding.
