The background image disappears and turns black

The background image disappears and turns black, then when I move the fences windows or select the full screen with the mouse, the background image comes back.

Must be a problem with the Fences because when the background disappears and I hold down one of the fences windows the picture only comes back as long as I hold down the window, everywhere the screen is still black.

The attached picture shows the screen going black, but it is also the other way around when the whole screen is black and only the drop-down panel has a background image.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks for answers.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please, when reporting an issue, include information on your systems.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe
  2. Fences full version number.
  3. Is this a new issue? Was it working before? What change recently? New Windows update? New software installed etc?

Thank you.

Hi!

1. Windows 10 Pro (Version: 22H2) (Build number: 19045.5247)

2.

3. I haven't changed the wallpaper in a long time so it was fine for a while, but now I changed the wallpaper and it's not fine.

Thanks for answers.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Need to know if you're using other application that manage your Wallpapers? Or special setting on your Graphic card? etc.

Thank you.

Hi!

Nothing extra, plain windows 10 wallpaper setup was done. Since I don't use the fences so it's not turned on, it doesn't do that. So there must be a problem here. I believe that it is difficult to identify the error because you can't reproduce it.

What I did was to set a background image and then the error would occur at random intervals.

First, please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

SAME PROBLEM as original poster.

Windows 11Pro   VS 24H2

10.0.26100 build 26100.2605

Running Fences 4 - 4.2.2.1 now - BUT - I downloaded Fences 5 last week, & it created the same problem

Problem was also occurring with Windows 11 previous version

Background is a solid blue color -no graphics

I have screen shots of the problem, but don't see a way to upload them here

UNINSTALLED FENCES 5 - PROBLEM STOPPED COMPLETELY

Reinstalled Fences 4 - PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN

Rebooting Laptop several times daily stops problem for a few minutes.

Hope you can fix this bug - I've been using Fences since 1.0 - hard to work without it.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Just as a test, if you use normal static wallpaper, not the solid color type, does the issue still appear?

Thank you.

basj - OK I switched from a standard Windows solid color to a standard Windows print - & so far, the issue seems to have resolved itself.

Going forward, I would still prefer to use a solid color as I have LOTS of folders/file in LOTS of Fences.   The print wallpaper makes it harder to see the files.  But for now, at least I can function.

Thank you so much for your help!

What you can do is, create a normal wallpaper with the color of your choice and use it. For example, if you wish it to be blue, create something like below.

And you should also get something like below.

Hi! In the meantime I will also answer, I did not do what you wrote because I looked it up and in windows it can be such a bug I managed to solve it by right clicking on the wallpaper instead of setting the wallpaper through the computer's desktop.

Currently so no problem now, if it comes back I will do what you wrote.

Bye
