UIS1 vs 2

Could someone please tell me the difference between uis1 and uis2? And- how do you convert a skin you've made fro m 2 to 1? And how do you include both in the same skin .wba file? Should I dother with uis1? Thanks for the help!! ~Anne

uis1 is the quicker, but it is harder to skin, and has less things. I believe there is an option to convert a uis2 to uis1 in the file menu. I am not sure if you can include both. Once you have converted the uis2 to uis1 you will probably need to edit the uis1 to get it to look right. My suggestion is to just start with one or the other and stick with that one.

UIS1 is a simpler, and therefore more limited, skin format. It's benefit is that it's more compatible with apps that might have trouble with WB skins, like Photoshop. It only allows standard window border sizes (3 or 4 pixels wide) and standard button placement. It's generally believed to be faster too although I'm not sure that's true anymore. I would highly recommend making one as a sub skin, or if your skin design is 'standard' enough just make the main skin a UIS1. It makes a very easy way to optimize the performance of your skin though I would still suggest using indexed color for your bmp's as well.

In Skin Studio you can convert a skin to the UIS1 format.  You'll probably need to open it in skin studio after creating it and fix a bunch of stuff like the border sizes and some of the images.

In SkinStudio go to Tools >WIndowBlinds > Convert skin to UIS1. You can include it as a sub skin also.

This is about the best explanation I have found for the differences between UIS1, UIS1+, and UIS2:

Towards the bottom of the menu are the references I believe you're looking for. Caution: This site has not been updated in a while so it's not a completely reliable reference, in my opinion, but it's a decent start. I personally haven't found it to be in error so much as incomplete.

Thanks, guys- I appreciate the help!! I am assuming both versions can be used by the shareware version- with some functions disabled, of course.
