Backup

I'm about to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything. Before I do so, I want to make sure I have backed up everything. As it stands, Stardock's products are the only thing left on my checklist.

I recall hearing once that there was an automated way to archive all the Stardock programs I had downloaded, but I don't remember how. Would someone point me in the right direction please?

SDC/right click/download and archive all

I tried that, and it started to redownload everything. As I'm not on dial-up at home that's an enormous amount of time it was about to tie up my connection for.

I tried going to campus and installing SDC there, but the install stopped because I didn't have write permission for some dll file.

Is there a zipped archive I can download?

It doesn't take too long, but you can right-click each proggie listed in SDC and Archive Application => Selected App or Entire App with Skins

Better option and long term solution is to get a second hard drive and a program like Drive Image and you can backup everything fairly easily and quickly

A question about archiving, what do each of the following options do?

* Archive production applications
* Archive pre-release applications
* Archive application modules

Not sure I don't have those options with SDC. I'm using Ver. 1.30.264, build: 46

* Archive production applications

This archives the 'official' release versions..

* Archive pre-release applications

This archives Beta & Alpha versions...

* Archive application modules

This archives any additional modules that come wiht a particular app (eg skins or themes etc)

I upgraded to SDC Ver. 1.30.258, build: 44 and got those options again.

I was able archive most of it, but when it got down to TweakShell it threw the following error:

There was an error installing TweakShell. The following error occurred:
Expires: 14 September 2004
Result: Installation failed
Would you like to view the installation log file?

When I went to go view the log file I got the following:
File not found, would you like to create a new one?

Would you like to view the installation log file?

You can also go to the Stardock folder in explorer and copy any themes folders from there for which ever programs you have. That's what I do, may take a bit depending on how many there are to copy. But I have had 2 hard drives go in the last 3 months, copying them makes it alot easier to put them back.

Hello Styl I'm surprised you've remembered me. I've been hanging around the 3DNA and SCN forums for a while.

Oracle - I finally ended up copying the entire Stardock folder to my backup hard drive.
