BOOTSKIN DOESN'T WORK - READ ONLY FOLDERS

Assuming you didn't burn these folders to a CD where they would be (more) likely to be marked as RO by default, I'd be extremely surprised if Bootskin is changing the attributes, much less the security settings, on these folders.

Your subject header is somewhat alarmist. I feel like I've been baited and switched !

I'm willing to bet you a dollar against a dime that there is NOTHING "wrong with this program"...

There are countless other reasons related to WinXP itself that could be the cause of the problems you see.

What is your login privilege - limited or admin?

What are the permission settings for the drive/folders where the Stardock stuff lives - i.e are the 'owner' settings set for someone other than you?

There are just two basic options to check first...

Did you change any files to read only? If you change 1 you change them all.

I have Administrator privileges, am the only using this pc and I have never changed the attributes. Only the Stardock has this problem.

Obviously, there is something wrong with the program.

I must be missing something...all folders are 'read only'. If you're talking about the .exe files and other folder contents, then click on advanced and make sure only the 'archive and index attributes' are checked. If they are checked correctly (and I'm sure they are), then the file is corrupt and you need to do a re-install.

I re-installed it twice already. It won't import the skin either.
This program is lame.

If you're talking just about 'Bootskin' then don't bother with it until version 1.03 comes out....1.02 is not working correctly.

I should add, while 1.02 is not working correctly, no one I know of is getting that error message. My guess is you have a bigger problem then this proggie...got a hacked .dll somewhere or running an overclocked system??

There are other posts in this message board with the same problem. Just search on "bootskin". Unfortunately, no one posted a solution.

Of course, a hacked dll or an overclocked pc is way, way off course.

You have about the same level of expertise as I observed in the responses to the other posts.

jeff....I'm using 1.0rc2...and have exactly ZERO problems with it.

It's not 'lame' at all, but a relatively simple proggy going through Alphas and Betas and bugs will surface, hence them being Alphas and Betas.....[funny, that].

Go back to an older version and wait......simple as that...

I "fixed" the problem. You have to unzip the files manually. Double-clicking on the file does not work.
