Ashes of the Singularity II, the sequel to the massive-scale RTS, takes you to a world in the near future where three factions are fighting for the fate of the solar system: the United Earth Forces (UEF), the Post-Human Coalition (PHC), and the AI Substrate. Whether you're interested in the single-player campaign, multiplayer, or skirmish matches, the faction you fight for is in your hands.
World elites have access to "eternal life" by uploading their consciousness. Their bodies are gone but hey, that's the price of forever.
The Post-Human Coalition started as a small group of such elites, manageable, tame. But as more and more people became post-human, the PHC found itself in disarray.
In-fighting, greed, glory, the pursuit of planets and power to fuel each individual.
Claiming planets as their own, using up natural resources and destroying ecosystems to fuel their growing computational capacity.
Some post-humans view themselves still as part of humanity. Mac chief among them. They don't revel in antagonism. They seek a mutually beneficial relationship with those who remain tied to their biological forms. They seek diplomacy, compassion, care. Maybe even greater access to post-human ascension for humans who seek it.
Some post-humans view themselves as the natural evolution of humanity, a superior off-shoot of the mammalian evolutionary progression. Demi-gods of sorts. Still looking down on humanity but without animosity.
Some post-humans consider themselves something else entirely... a race of their own... not beholden to humanity or biological beings in any way. Supreme rulers... worse perhaps. Gods that fight among themselves and care little for the ants below that may be squashed by their actions.
Before Haalee and the Substrate split from the PHC, they were able to utilize her skills and knowledge to engineer advanced technology.
Their weapon systems mix their own personal vision for post-human futures with Haalee's guiding hand.
Since their split, their technology has been adapted slightly to try to address any subterfuge on her part, whether real or imagined.
You'll see assets and units from the first game but perhaps with slight optimization, additions, and changes as they cleave themselves from Haalee's influence.
