New Primary System

How to add new Primary

I've just ordered a new computer and I will want it to be my Primary system.  My current primary system is becoming a secondary system along with the one I already have.  The old secondary is Win 10.  The new primary is Win 11 as is the current primary that will become a secondary.  Confused yet? ;)  Anyway, I'd like to know the order things should be done for a smooth transition and will I need old passcodes or will new ones be required/generated?  During setup, will I need monitors and keyboards for both secondaries, or just the new one?  If both, can I configure one and then move the monitor to do the other or do they need to be done at the same time?  Not sure what else I need so please let me know if I'm missing anything else.   Thank you for your help and a helpful product.

Hello,

I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Add note, while waiting it is best if you can add some information on your systems.

  • Multiplicity full version installed.
  • Windows full version and OS Build number on all systems.

Thank you,

Hi bhare,

Thanks for your questions.  Here's a step-by-step recommendation that should make a smooth transition:

1. Install Multiplicity on the new computer and sign in with your Stardock account to activate your license.  There's no need to uninstall from the other machines.

2. Set up the new machine as Primary in Multiplicity.  A new passcode will be generated — the old passcode from your previous setup won't carry over, you'll need to input a new one to match each secondary.

3. Reconfigure each secondary one at a time — open Multiplicity on the secondary, remove the old primary connection; ensure each has the new primary's passcode. You can change the old primary's role to Secondary from the main page of the configuration app.

4. Connect/add to the secondaries from your new Primary as necessary.

Regarding monitors/keyboards for the secondaries: you shouldn't need to have monitors and keyboards on both secondaries at the same time. You can configure one secondary, verify it's working, then move the monitor and keyboard to the other secondary to configure it.

If you run into any issues or have questions along the way, please let us know which step you're on and what you're seeing.

Good luck with the new setup!
