LAGGGGG...problems

Well, my computer is not a junk bucket, well, for what is out now it is, but it should be fine, AMD2100+, Corsair PC2700 512MB ram, 2x 120GB Western Digital drives both with 8mb caches, ATI 9600 128mb card. What is happening is when I am running desktopx and object dock, and load BF:Vietnam. The game lagggggs rediculously. Now the game never lagged before, and when I turn off object dock, it still lags. So, it has to be DesktopX. So, first question: What do I do to help keep the machine running fast without having to Unload DesktopX each time I play BF:V? Second problem: When I load desktopx again, after playing, nothing appears. So I have to manually go load my theme(thats fine), but then when I click on my theme, and load, nothing appears yet again, so then all I have on my screen is object dock. So I have to go and reload each object and position them, WTF (not fine).???
Any help,
THANKS!!!,
Mike

i play BF as well. iv never ran any program that requires gpu resources while gaming . any skinning prog wll use some gpu resources and slow or stager game play. also what kind of stuff are you running in dx ? weather meters constantly update eating up band width as well as cpu time .. cpu meters are constantly polling the system and eating cpu clock time ....these are a couple of examples of what could be slowing your gaming down....i turn off all extras while gaming .

my system is 2200+ athlon,1.2gig 2700 DDR,80 gig maxtor 133 ultra ATA HDD,nividia fx 5200 256 meg v card ...

There are so many tweaks and tips for WinXP that I wouldn't know where to begin. But, there comes a time when you just can't add anymore objects to your desktop no matter how fast your CPU is or how much Ram you have. Then, there are programs that will constantly chew up Ram. It's sort of like making more money. The more money you make the more you spend. Likewise, the more Ram you have, the more you'll use. The solution is maybe to get more Ram. But, you must see the Dilemma.
