After update to 6.52, how to go back a version?

After update to 6.52 six days ago, my desktop has often become unusable.  I try to drag a file from the desktop to a folder on the desktop and it does not move even if I wait for 3 minutes.  I have to cut and paste to make the move. 

I have 529 icons on my desktop which are spread across two screens of a three screen machine, but it has only behaved like this since I upgraded to 6.52.

I have a Fences6_setup.exe file dated March 6 2026.  Is it safe to install this over 6.52?

Windows is 11 Pro, 25H2, OS build 26200.9168
Processor   AMD Ryzen 9 12-Core Processor (3.80 GHz)
Installed RAM   32.0 GB
Graphics card   NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (11 GB)

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try, uninstall Fences, reboot immediately (important), redownload latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

If the issue still appear, need few more details.

  1. If you disable Fences, does the issue still appear? 
  2. Post a video for the issue would help us understand your issue better.

Hi Roy, there was a known performance issue in v6.52. Please give v6.54 a try and see if it resolves?

 

Yes uninstalling and reinstalling a new one will be fine, just be sure to say no to erasing your settings during uninstall, and be sure to reboot before trying to reinstall. v6.54 you can install right on top of v6.52 and just reboot after install to apply
