Taskbar centering problem since recent update

v2.8 taskbar issue

Hi there.

Since a recent update to v2.8 the icons n the task bar on 2nd monitor aren't spacing properly when centred option is used. 1st monitor is fine but 2nd taskbar when choosing 'centred' option has the search box on the far left, the Windows/start button is placed a long way to the right and the other icons are nowhere near centred and are displaced to the right.

Windows 11, NVidia RTX 4070, Intel Core i5-12400F, 32 gb memory.

 

Just me? Or known issue?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. First, let's make sure that Start11 get properly installed. Please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

If the issue still appear, We need more information.

  1. Windows full version and OS Build number.
  2. Start11 Taskbar enhance turn on or off?
  3. Do you have any other application which also change or add something on the taskbar.

Not just you. Taskbar icons sitting out of position on a second monitor was reported against 2.74, and Neil confirmed on 24 August that we were looking into it and had not found the trigger.

His stated workaround at that point was to disable the enhanced taskbar, which avoids the behaviour until the trigger is found.

The honest cost of that workaround, because it is a real one. Centred alignment on Windows 11 is configured through the enhanced taskbar, so turning it off stops the icons floating and takes your centred layout with it. That is a choice between two things you want rather than a fix.

One route to avoid while you are looking. Going back to 1.55 does escape this, and Neil was explicit that it brings its own trouble with taskbar popups and with clicking taskbar buttons on current Win11 builds, which is why the newer versions exist. Not a trade worth making.

What I cannot tell you is where it stands today. That was a statement about 2.74 made in August, and nothing in the 2.8 changelog covers second monitor icon positioning, so I have no basis for saying it was addressed in the build you are on. Your report is a data point on 2.8 rather than something I can look up.

Please ignore the post above as it contains inaccurate information.  

We have found the issue and it is unique to v2.8, it is nothing to do with 2.74 or 1.55.

I will arrange for the update to go out as soon as possible.
