Audio from secondary PC cuts out

Windows Version Number: Windows 11 25H2
App Version: 4.07

Running Multiplicity on my main PC, PC is running Multiplicity 4.07 on Windows 11 25H2.

Running Multiplicity on my secondary PC, secondary PC is running 4.07 on Windows 10 22H2.

I like to listen to music, watch videos, etc. on my secondary PC but I have noticed in the past few days the audio will abruptly and without warning cut out.

I can restore the audio by right-clicking the Multiplicity Audio icon in the Notification area on the secondary PC, and turning the 'Send audio when receiver is online' option off, then turning it back on. Audio will resume but may cut out again without warning.

It didn't used to happen much but in the past couple days it's become more frequent.

Hi khyron2k1,

Thank you for posting.  The fact that toggling that setting restores the audio is interesting.   Seems your connection between the two PCs is holding up, and just the audio stream is getting interrupted.

Could you work through our audio troubleshooting steps and let us know if anything here helps?

Two I'd suggest starting with:

1. Disable jack detection on the sender PC.  Some systems will not send audio unless Windows believes an output device is physically plugged in, and if that detection drops, audio stops without warning.  Plugging earbuds into the secondary PC tests the same thing.

2. You can also try entering the receiver's IP address instead of its hostname in the sender's settings.  If the issue is more frequent now, it's possible the address changed recently.

Two questions as well may help to clarify what's happening:

1. When the audio cuts, does the secondary PC keep playing through its own speakers or headphones?
2. Did anything change on either machine around the time this became more frequent - Windows updates, audio drivers, a new headset, or anything on the network?

Regarding the questions you posed :

1) No, the audio on the secondary PC does not continue to play. Whenever I turn the option 'Send audio when receiver is online' on, the audio on the secondary PC automatically mutes. When the sound cuts out, that option is still enabled and the audio is still muted. When I disable that option, the audio un-mutes on the secondary PC then mutes again when I re-enable it (And the audio stream begins to work again).

2) The most recently installed update according to Windows 11's update history is 2026-09 .NET Framework Security Update (KB5126052) on 9/9. I don't recall exactly when this behavior began, but it was definitely present over the past weekend (9/12 and 9/13) and it may have been sooner than that that I just don't recall.

I just disabled jack detection and set the secondary PC to connect via IP instead of Hostname, I'll respond back if the problem persists.

Did you change your audio drivers recently?

Windows update sometimes does driver updates too.
