Satans Child you are 100% correct its the Smiley Skin feautred by Gef! That's correct! That is why i was wondering why I was told to install BW in the 1st place. As you can see in the beginning of my trail I had oriniganlly installed DesktopX as stated by Gef (he stated that this is a requirement). However, it doesnt seem to install with DesktopX. I see the SMILEY start pane to the left of my screen ... and then a smily face sppinning in the middle of my screen like its loading ??? Not sure ?? Is this normal ..? but then again its sits there 4ever ..?? How long does this take?
Any ideas?

Just to make sure we're on the same page here ..when I download the SMILEY zip it only downloads in a .ZIP format ..how do I gfet it to download in this .WBA format that you guys are talking about???

You don''t have to mess with windowblinds with the file you downloaded, you were right the first time it''s a DX theme.


Try moving the file into the DX folder, usually here My Computer>C>Program Files>Object Desktop>DesktopX>Themes .... right click and unzip.

If you downloaded Gef's skin, it's not a WindowBlind which uses .wba extension. It should have a .DXtheme extension. I was confused and also thought you were trying to use the Smile WB from the GUIOlympics. Open the zip and see if there's a DXtheme extension file in it. If there is extract it and click on it. If there isn't then rename the .zip extension to .dxtheme and then click on that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You did say that some of the theme was there ... is it all there and you have to click something to get it to show?? I don't have the theme you're working with so I really don't know but these other fellas here may be able to help far better than I can.

here's some information from the comments section on that theme, which btw I am also getting the same results with this theme.

The missing wallpaper is a known bug for DX 2.1
A way around it is to reload the theme and the wallpaper will then appear. Stardock is aware of this bug and is working on it.

For the taskabr, go to the DesktopX properties (right-click on the desktop and choose properties) and uncheck "Hide explorer taskbar". It will ask you to restart DX and then it will appear. Another way in this theme is to go to the "Shortcuts" menu and click on taskbar. It will appear on the upper part of the screen.

For the rainlendar and rainmeter, they are both included in the *.zip file you downloaded. You have to manually copy the folders in the appropriate palces, so when you start either rainy, you can then choose the skin.

Dabe...I'm no expert but, try this. With DX off, go to the Desktop X directory, the "user" theme file (it'll be named whatever your computer user name is). After you that file, go to the "thumbscache" file under the "themes" directory under DX, open in notepad, and the two "smiley" files. Reload DX (it'll be a blank theme), then right click the DX systray icon and click on "load theme". As long as you reloaded the Smiley theme, it should now show up correctly. Hope this helps, at least until Stardock fixes 2.19.

ok also note:
if you right click on the dx icon in the systray, then click "configure desktopx", and click "load theme" when the theme manager comes up, if you scroll down you will see the smiley theme, click on it and it will install. Also still, part of the theme is a rainlender, and dxplayer, you have to have those programs installed for the whole theme to be visible. but at the very least part of the theme will be useable once you follow the above directions.

The theme is 1280 x 1024 and may display wierd at the resolution you are running.

ok one other aside here,
because of the nature of the thread, when I dl'd the smiley zip, I right clicked and then clicked "open" when the dl dialogue came up.(I don't normally reccomend this but in this case it seems to be the best way )
once it dl'd, the zip file folder was visible (with it's contents.) I am using XP and so all I had to do was click the extract to button and extract it to c:\program files\stardock\object desktop\desktopx\themes. by extracting to that address it automaticly shows up in dx's theme manager. it also shows an open folder at the top of the theme manager(presumably from rainlender folder which also got put there. I don't have rainlender so....)
this might help you if it's not working right the way you've done it so far...
