This could be, like a support thread or something for everyone on WinC who wants to stop. I think that would be cool. We could help each other out, and keep up to date on success techniques and stuff.

My biggest success technique so far is vitamin C and grapefruit juice.

Really????....what do you do with them?
I drink the juice and pop the vitamin pills Gary!!! Thank you for the laugh!!!

Good for you Kona! This habit is the hardest to kick and I know cause I'm still smoking(started when I was 14, 20+years ago) It's a fithy habit and very expensive(10.50 a pack!)nevermind coughing up a lung every morning! I wish you success BTW congrats on your promo

Kona, the first days are the hardest, this is because of the mental thing. Your nicotine level will only drop after a few days, keep that in mind, you don't really 'need' to smoke yet. In the beginning its just the habit.

Thanks for your support everyone. I''m doing OK. I have not relapsed yet. I don''t plan on smoking again either.

That's great! I'd agree on the age thing too. My mom just can't quit because she smoked for about 30+ years.

That's true for almost anything. I had a very hard time starting to exercise, and being truly committed to being healthier have helped me very much. Looks like you're truly committed too, but keep on it!

Only thing that was easy for me on changing to healthier lifestyle were to change to water. I think it was because I was so sick of aftertaste on pop drinks.

Congrats on your decision! It's one of the best you'll ever make!

I haven't smoked a cigarette in over 6 years. I was a two pack-a-day smoker, but when my [then]5 year old asked how old he had to be before he could smoke, I knew it was time! Now I have more energy, stamina, and I don't always have to worry about how long 'til my next smoke

I recall the patches helped, but you have to want to not smoke more than you want to, if that makes sense.

Good luck, I know you can do it!

Actually I had a smoke today. Because I got so dizzy it was hard to read. I will continue to try. I must say I become a ass when I do not smoke.

Hey less of the age thing - I smoked for 30 years and finally gave up last August. I chew a hell of a lot of nicotine gum tho, but at least the air's cleaner and I don't have to worry about 'no smoking' areas

Funny thing is...when I was 14 I used to bug the hell out of my mother to quit. Well...she quit and I started....now she bugs me!

big incentive to quit isn't your health. people always argue that 'we all die someday'.

"why PAY someone to kill you? DOWN with the cancer merchant!" - clerks

really.. how much freaking money do you spend on ciggerettes in a year? yeah we all die but die rich.. don't blow 20 grand a year on cancer. we've already got enough of that as it is. save your freakin money.. buy stock or starbucks.

i heard a statistic on the radio yesterday.. "air pollution in smoke-free bars is 85% cleaner a year after smoking was banned from those bars" ... no $#!^ , who figured that out?

I didn't know you smoked Kona.

Q: Do you smoke after sex?
A: I dunno, I never looked...

One word...Zyban (Welbutrin). It makes it SO much easier.

Good luck.

I don''t smoke cigs but I do smoke a pipe. I ocassionally inhale but not often. Take up a pipe. Enjoy tobbacco for once! I don''t see what the fuss is all about, unless you want to account for your health and wallet. Beside you have to keep your paws busy! >

I quit using alcohol and other drugs 20 years ago - One Day At A Time and with a lot of support. I only quit smoking cigarettes after I had a spontaneous pnuemothorax of the right lung - it basically collapsed one day, most likely due to the carcinogens I put in my lungs daily through smoking for approx. 20 years. I had my last puff walking into the local emergency room. A lung collapsing is not so bad, but the whole chest tube experience was absolutely the most painful thing I have ever experienced. My point is this - you can quit if you want to quit. I found that it was a little easier each day. I would not have been able to quit "slowly" - I needed to do it cold turkey. Go for it if you want to - you will have a lot of support.
