antialiasing is the process of taking a pixelated line or shape and blending the pixels into transparency to give it a smooth, natural appearance. for example, a diagonal line on screen when looked at closely appears to be jaggy, there are rows of square pixels of one color. but when antialiased, the black line is blended into shades of gray along the path of the line as to blur out the jaggedness of the line.
depending on the intensity of the graphics, antialiasing all those jagged lines takes a lot of processing power.
Hardware acceleration in video cards takes much of this load off of the computer''s processor, but sometimes the software, in this case DesktopX, needs to take over that task. DesktopX is asking you how much extra detail you want it to antialias. depending on your computer speed and video hardware, you will have to play with this setting to acheive a certain result. or, simply leave it at the default if nothing is wrong with your display.
