The Prancing Pony

The welcome sight of a tavern greeted the weary traveler as he moved within distance of the town. Having traveled for many days, he longed for a cool mug of ale to slake his road-thirst.

As he approached the inn, he could see a sign of a fat pony rearing up on its hindlegs. The letters, THE PRANCING PONY, was painted in white.

The common room was large and rowdy. A bald and overweight innkeeper stood bent over the counter, whispering the latest gossip into the ears of a patron. On the benches were various folks, the local drunks for most part, but in corners of the taverns, he noticed there were groups drinking by themselves.

Setting himself down, the traveler handed a couple of coppers over to one of the bar wrenches for ale.

“Welcome to the Pony.” The traveler was mildly surprised to find a sprightly old man next to him, holding his gaze with keen eyes that belittled his obvious antiquity.

“Thank you, and whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?”

“Folks around here call me Ray and I do enjoy meeting up with newcomers to see if there is any assistance I could render.”

“That would be great, Ray. I would love to learn about the people who reside in these parts.”

“Ah, that’s a frequently asked question and one I’m well qualified to answer. There are a couple of factions here in Meta that you will want to watch out for.

The Pirates are currently dominant. Not the most refined of speakers but they are a jovial bunch, with a particular weakness for good drinks.

The Diplomats hold power in the Courts. Their courtiers are many but they don’t really mix with us common folks.

The Farmers are our working class. Hardworking and honest, they are however on occasion given over to overly elaborate festivals and celebrations.

The Galahs are a group of seafarers. They are also good trainers of livestock.

The Warlords are our warrior class. Their love for long campaigns leaves them frequently out of town.

The Spiders monopolise our merchant guilds. They are by far the most invertebrate bunch of traders you will ever see.

Far to the north, the Undead holds a death grip over the wastelands. I would caution you against traveling down that road.

There are many other smaller factions around, but I leave the details of those to Barley our bartender.

One of our tavern regulars, Gerakken the Spymaster, is also in the know with regards to many of the factions. So do buy him a drink if you want to find out more.”

“Thanks for the insights, Ray. But how about yourself, which faction do you belong to?”

Smiling to himself, the old man stood.

“Come round the Fellowship Halls tomorrow morning and I’ll show you around.”

BTW Cotal, you can still be a honorary member of the Fellowship. Killa's one as well (of the old White Council if he recalls). :)

Theoden, can we have a honorary member list on our website just like the Jedis?

We can put both Cotal and Killa as honorary members.

Cotal, Killa - If you don't want this, let me know.

Actually Gerakken would be another one who has really contributed much to our empire. But not sure whether he wants to be considered an honorary member.

Easy. Don't give him a choice. We didn't! :D

Gerakken may give his allegiance to G.R.O.S.S., but the Metaverse is truly his home, not any one empire. "We are merely passing through the Metaverse. Gerakken IS the Metaverse.

"Do as you will."

Hehe...and that's EXACTLY what he wants you to think, too....

Gerakken is GR:VOMIT:SS through and through!

Really? Damn, I missed that...still, there is your new icon... ;p

Ok, let's put Gerakken into the honorary member list unless he objects.

Let's have an Allied Empires list as well. Jedi Republic is definitely an allied empire.
Cotal seems to suggest that the ANZACs are allied with us as well. I'm certainly up for it. :)

Your statement somehow reminded me about the fact that all empires start off in the Galciv game at being At War with space pirates. LOL

I assume that means you are agreeable to the alliance proposition, Blue.

So we will have the first tripartite alliance on the Metaverse. :)

Um . . . not to be caught out on the wrong foot diplomaticaly speaking . . . I simply assumed the ANZACs where allied with everbody unless stated otherwise? My oppsie sorry ;) .

Anyway I'm sure back in the Warty days relations with both the Fellowship and Gross were smoother . . . this is becoming so exciting! Just like the game . . . hehe! I wonder what will happen next?

Yeah, Cotal. It may be sacrilegious to say this but the forum may have surpassed the game for me in terms of the fun factor. Not surprising actually if you think about it. The game mechanics are "dead" but here in the forum, our interactions have made this forum into a kind of MMORPG where things change so quickly.

All in all, this is the best 50 bucks (+30 bucks) that I have ever spent for some form of entertainment. I don't think I will ever get this kind of value for money.

Don't think there were ever any problems in relations between the Fellowship and the ANZACs.

No, wait. I did turn Wombat and Killa into animals. And they did sic a number of nasty animals (and Harry Potter) on me. LOL

LOL... thats ok.. they arn't ANZACS as they keep reminding me

Sure... draw up the papers... and i'll read them after the party tonight .... and sign them if everything looks to my satisfaction... ;p

I'll probably be too drunk to draw up papers tonight, Blue.

Let's have fun at the Galactic Ball and talk about the alliance tomorrow. :D

Okay, I'm gone for a couple of days, and everything changes!! LOL

I will try and work on a "Honorary Fellowship Roster" today, and will also add a Alliance page.

On second thought, I may add a "Metaverse Diplomacy" page, and that will include all Alliances. Probably should put on there that we are currently at war with G.R.O.S.S. (in the most friendly way! ;) ).

Cotal, I will miss your interesting conversations in the Fellowship halls, but I wish you well in your return to your homeland! You are certainly most welcome to return here anytime!

I'll have to also update the Fellowship News today concerning a variety of changes over the weekend.

Looks like a busy day! :SURPRISED:

I find a surprising amount of my free time is consumed not by video games but by video game forums (not this one primarily).

Well, in response I am writing an epic called "The Perfidy and Treason of Cotal," which I'm sure (almost) everyone will enjoy.

(just kidding if that wasn't obvious)
