LogonStudio Help Please

O.K., something happened and I cleaned out LogonStudio software and reinstalled now only having the three (3) initial logons (i.e., welcome1, welcome2, and welcome 3). Memory does not remember how to get a new downloaded logon into the LogonStudio window. Need instructions if you would be so kind.

The problem is that the downloaded logon unzips just fine, but instead of it going into the directory (LogonStudio Window) it shows up for example: Curent: Nightlights. The problem is a) the Preview does not show up for example again Nightlights, and b) it does not actually show up on log off.

Your search - Nightlights - did not produce any results
Please enter new search criteria and try again.

Generally Logons fail to load due to improper packaging when uploaded. If I could download the Logon you're referring to I could explain how to get it loaded.  TRy this.... open the LogonStudio directory, and look for a folder with the same name as the Logon you're trying to load. Chances are the actual Logon will be inside that folder, and all you have to do is double-click it.

Randy, I have the program and downloaded CIA-SE. Where it shows this in the directory is "above" the box to the left where the 3 samples are that come with the program.

It is in WC's logons>Author: MexZC

Further, I did not use to have this problem. They use to go right into the directory. We have XP. Question: After downloading to the desktop, I open folder to where? Usually, I use the desktop and than click on the zip and it opens to a window for extraction of a file(s), then another window opens. I open the file and it goes into the directory (sort of), but not in the list...just above the list>like this: Current: John Doe.

I'm actually downloading it now. I can tell you right away that it is packaged wrong. It should download as a .logonxp file instead of a zip. This way it will extract properly for the program.

That link didn't take me to it either, but I finally found it..... it's C.I.A-Se ....... in the future please spell the name exactly as it appears. It makes searching for a skin much easier.

OK... downloaded said Logon, opened the zip, and double-clicked the CIA-SE.logonxp file inside, and it loaded perfectly.

I'm going to do a little guess work here........ you're using the built in XP zip manager, right?

I haven't used that much, because I didn't like the way it works. But you probably need to extract the contents of the zip to anywhere you choose (the Desktop is fime). Then go to the extracted file(s), and double-click the logonxp file. That should work.

I have to leave for a while, but if that doesn't fix it for you, let me know, I'll check this thread when I get a chance.

Well, I just opened the zip and there was a wallpaper and a logonxp file in it. I double clicked the logonxp file and it installed just fine. I hit apply and the logon file worked.

Just right click, hold, drag and copy the file to your desktop and try to apply it there.

The "samples" within Skins and Themes load correctly after download. The problem is getting them from WC's logons. If you give me instruction, please make them step-by-step otherwise I am totally lost at sea.

Sure, send me a screenshot........... just click on my nick, and you'll find my email address. I'm working in the yard, and checking in during breaks (hot out there), but I'll get back to you soon.

Hopefully we can resolve this. No program should be this difficult. Bootskins load without any problem.

Its not a difficult program. Your problem might be in the usage of the internal XP zip manager. Try winzip. There use to be a free version. I never use the internal zip manager because it is a headache. Let winzip handle your zip files. You shouldn't even have to change the default set up of winzip. It will handle all zips itself by the default install.

if logonstudio refuses to load the .logonxp files you can try opening them with an archiver and extracting the files

to do this make a new folder in your logonstudio directory and extract the files from the .logonxp file to it

logonstudio can then see the logon screen.

winace can open the .logonxp as if they were any other archives

p.s why doesnt firefox work with this message board >

I actually had trouble loading a logonxp file recently. I double clicked it and the name appeared in LogonXP but nothing below in the preview pane. Similar to your problem. I even tried reloading it from Logon Studio. Finally, I just changed the extension of the original to zip and unzipped it. It seems that the author created two logonxp files, one for 1280 and one for 1024. After unzipping it, I double clicked on the 1024 logonxp file inside. And, it installed properly.

The logonxp should install and show the preview once it is double clicked. If it doesn't then you have a similar problem to the one I had above. You can normally reload it from the logon theme directory. If this doesn't work then change the original logonxp extension to zip and double click it to see the contents. If there is a logonxp file in the zip, then this is the problem. Extract that logonxp file, then double click the file. It should now install properly.

Basically, the LogonXP program itself is very simple. It is just a matter of learning how to work with zipped archives. I prefer Winzip.

or u could right click the .logonxp file (you may have to hold the shift key while doing so)

then goto openwith and your zip program.

Changing the extenstion would only work if you have the options to hide extenstion of known filetype off in folder options of my computer (or any browser window e.g one showing c:\)
