Has anyone had poblems with their Internet connection?

Not sure where you reside at. I am in Maryland, USA and love my cable connection - such outages are very rare (in fact, never) and what I like about it is I am not forced to use any msn or such 'services' with it. Do you have cable in your area?

Also, in the past when I have had such occurrences such as you mention, say with my phone bill, or even my cable tv bill, or even diap up, and I couldn't get done what I needed to get done, I would take the total bill, figure out what it costs me per day, and subtract the days of non service. Explaining that I would do that, and was within my rights to, usually got a solution fairly quick, and if not, at least I wasn't paying for nothing.

I was having some problems. Was told to unplug everything connected to my cable modem and my DSL router including power plugs, wait 5 mintues and hook everything back up. It worked. Good luck.

Same thought as werewolf. Toss your router arounf the room a bit. After you put a big crack in it it should work fine.

I must have missed the part about him even having a router....Phil, do you have a Firewall and who's is it?

Verizon is a bunch of crooks if you ask me.Their billing practices are downright criminal.I will never use yhem again.I use charter now(probably only local).40 a month,reliable so far,and 3 mbits per second.I also had real good luck with a local wireless company.No cables or phone lines and fast and 40 a month.

I use Microsoft's Firewall. I do have a router (but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Oh and I did disconnect the whole DSL router thing. The guy came over to the house and they don't know what is going on either.

Its Verizon DSL with MSN. I used to love it but now I don't know... I love the MSN part.

I guess I can go cable. The only thing I heard that was bad about it was that there will be times when the download rate will be slow depending on how many people happen to be on at the same time.

Something has got to give. Need internet now!

See if Verizon is advertising something new. I noticed with my moms that whenever something new was developed and advertised that her internet connection went crappy. Sort of like their way of "inspiring" you to upgrade.

I've been using cable for almost 2 years and I've never had any problem that couldn't be fixed by resetting the modem [ they recommend doing that once a week or so]It costs about 45 a month, but I don't have to pay extra for MSN etc... and they even improved the speed significantly a few months ago [2473mbps on CNets speed test]plus I get a decent package discount with my TV cable

I have DSL through Qwest (Oregon) which I've been happy with. There has been a few times where I had to reset the modem (unplug/replug) because of lightning strikes...but overall it's close to its advertised speed (1.5 Mbps) and a lot faster than my work's bloated T1 line!

Actually, this morning before leaving for work, I wasn't able to check my email or go to many websites, but that was due to my ISP (a local one). I would opt for cable DSL, unfortunately Charter Cable is being pigheaded about setting it up in this small podunk town. >

Ditch that and get Comcast cable - much faster.

Oh and remind me again WHY you need MSN with Verizon DSL service? Last year when I had DSL I had the option to use MSN but DSL works fine without any extra software... All you need is a working browser.

dunno if this has been asnwered yet, i saw a lot of unrelated stuff...so here goes:

where are you located, joe? i'm in philadelphia, with verizon. in the dead center of the city you'd think i would face similar problems like flaky bandwitdh and disconnections, but i havn't have a single problem with it for the 6 months i've had it. i have the DSL modem, and also a belkin router. if anything DOES go wrong, unplug the modem for a few minutes then turn it back on, with a router or anything else disconnected. let it re-commit to the system, then plug everything back in. make sure you don't have any of those DSL filters on your modem's line, and make sure all phones in your house are comming off of those filters.. they WILL interferre with your service. then, test out your personal firewalls.. by default, they should allow the modem's connections..

you can also double check your network settings, something might have changed them wrongfully.. you want your IP, gateway, domain, all of that to be 'automatic'. if you are going through a router, have the router clone your primary computer's MAC address, and then let the router handle your IP assignments. i can give more in-depth info if you need it.

kona, you have to pay comcast a whole lot more money to get anything other than crap speeds, at least around here. for 30$ a month, my verizon service is amazing. you get the MSN access (which is like, a 20$/month value) and that service has a lot of features i use CONSTANTLY.. from the encylopedia, to finances, to the online address book that will sync with my cell phone.. it's a great deal no matter how you look at it. and, to mirror those aol commercials taht say 'a basic high speed internet access gets you online but doesn't take you anywhere), comcast put me through constant customer service hell, any kind of system help became costly, and they don't do anything for you farther then a 'my comcast' webpage and a personal website. for the buck, verizon is a steal. it may not be as fast in the higher end, but it does what it's gotta do. get me online fast.

Hey, thanks. The only reason why I was on-line to make this thread was because I was at work... or school. I have no connection at home to even get on-line. Well at least until today.


I hooked up Juno once again and that is why I am home and on-line now. Verizon DSL still does not work after about 2 weeks and a few days.


They can not seem to fix the issue. Before, this really would not bother me, but now I do so much on-line its not funny. I am trying to start a business as well, I go to school on-line, play on-line, comunicate... EVERYTHING!!! Weather reports, screenshots, blogging, news articles, job search... I can't live without it.


Anyway, one of my friends told me also that cable is the way to go... no problems for 2 years so far except for on day. We might go with RoadRunner or iO Digital cable.

But I really, REALLY like the MSN 8. Love it in fact, but if there is something wrong with the line then not even MSN will work either.
