which theme are you trying to load? Are you sure the theme has a custom start menu, or is it perhaps windowblinds that's skinning the taskbar and start menu? Post some details here and I'm sure you'll get the help you need.

By desktop you probably mean the wallpaper and icons. You need iconpackager for the icons. You might find a link to the wall in the comments of that particular skin.

The start menu probably is windowblinds, as f0r3 said. Make sure you have WinXP or you will need Objectbar in addition to windowblinds, if you have Win98 or WinME.

It all may sound a little complicated, but a little patience is all it takes. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. You can find shareware versions of Windowblinds and probably Iconpackager on the left of the website under Resources and Software. If you decide to pay for Object Desktop, you will have everything thing you need. Good luck.

Under desktop x settings you will find a checkbox to show or hide the windows task bar (same setting hides the start panel also). Unless you check it to show, almost all desktop x themes will keep them hidden.

purple lines = magic pink

Some of the latest skins do not have settings in place for the deprecated wb3.x features. You would need to be running Windowblinds 4.2 to use these skins
