Stop 0x0000000A or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
The Stop 0xA message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel interrupt request level (IRQL) that was too high. A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that have an IRQL lower than, or equal to, its own. This Stop message is typically due to faulty or incompatible hardware or software.

Interpreting the Message
This Stop message has four parameters:

Memory address that was improperly referenced.
IRQL that was required to access the memory.
Type of access (0x00000000 = read operation, 0x00000001 = write operation).
Address of the instruction that attempted to reference memory specified in parameter 1.
If the last parameter is within the address range of a device driver used on your system, you can determine which device driver was running when the memory access occurred. You can typically determine the driver name by reading the line that begins with:

If the third parameter is the same as the first parameter, a special condition exists in which a system worker routine, carried out by a worker thread to handle background tasks known as work items, returned at a higher IRQL. In that case, some of the four parameters take on new meanings:

Address of the worker routine.
Kernel interrupt request level (IRQL).
Address of the worker routine.
Address of the work item.
Resolving the Problem
The following suggestions are specific to Stop 0xA errors. For additional troubleshooting suggestions that apply to all Stop errors, see "Stop Message Checklist" later in this appendix.

A Stop 0xA message might occur after installing a faulty device driver, system service, or firmware. If a Stop message lists a driver by name, disable, remove, or roll back the driver to correct the problem. If disabling or removing drivers resolves the issues, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, and CD mastering tools.
A Stop 0xA message might also be due to failing or defective hardware. If a Stop message points to a category of devices (video or disk adapters, for example), try removing or replacing the hardware to determine if it is causing the problem.
If you encounter a Stop 0xA message while upgrading to Windows XP Professional, the problem might be due to an incompatible driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup. To avoid problems while upgrading, simplify your hardware configuration and remove all third-party device drivers and system services (including virus scanners) prior to running setup. After you have successfully installed Windows XP Professional, contact the hardware manufacturer to obtain compatible updates. Are you able to start it in Safe Mode? If you can then uninstall bootskin when in safe mode. Restart and it should work. Then you can reinstall bootskin. I had the same problem. Thats what I did and it worked no problem.

Actually I can't start in Safe Mode either.

You can try to use a WinXP boot disk to repair the OS. Or maybe your OS restore disk will do the trick. BootSkin has been known to have trouble on certain systems. It sort of depends on what else you have on the computer that might conflict with BootSkin too. Certain Bios don't seem to work well with it either. For changing 8bit pixel skins, its not worth the risk to me. Good Luck.

I have another problem. I don't have either the Windows XP disc or a OS restore disk. Is there nothing I can do to fix this?

Start...All Programs...Accessories...System Tools...System Restore...Pick a date next to the time when yopu got the computer and restore to that point in time, but be aware you will lose your current settings.

I have run into this problem on several occasions, stop let machine cool down, then open machine, reseat all pci & agp cards, then make sure all memory sticks are seated tight (reseat them if needed), then also reseat all IDE cable, power plugs, and whatnot. once this is done then try and boot machine. If machine will not boot, then (if more than 1 stick) remove a stick of memory, restart (yes/no) shut down machine and try other stick of memory. Boot? (yes/no) try removing individual pci cards and narrow down if card is causing problem, by starting and trying to boot machine with each card removed. Boot? (yes/no) take out all devices, except video card. Boot? (yes/no) If machine will not boot with all devices removed except video card, then if you have plain pci video card (antique) try booting machine. Boot? (yes/no) Borrow memory module from friend and try swapping out memory. If still not booting then Machine is Broken. Go to nearest liquer Store and Purchase bottle of RUM. (Next step is Very Critical) Drink RUM (all of it!) Now with that done go to Bed, get good nights sleep. Get up next Morning, Explain to wife P.O.S Machine is broken, and you are going to Computer Store, to Browse. (Next Step is Very Important) Be Sure to take all credit cards with you. Also of Impotance explain to wife all uses of machine, that she is not getting right now, and that Now is really the time to be looking for a new Boxen. Go to Store Purchase Really nice machine. Next stop at Liquer Store on way Home and get another bottle of RUM. go home put new machine together... Go, Ohhhhh!!!! and Ahhhhh!!! Brag on new machine online, Now Important part again... Drink Rum, go to Bed. Get up Next Morning and open weekend Sales paper, See machine on sale for 1/2 price you paid, Drink more RUM and go back to BED.

Actually that irq_less than issue is what prompted me to by a new laptop.
I have that problem with a 2Ghz celeron Box, and I have done everything to try and resolve it. I think it is how windows assembles the OS Kernel on Install, and if something gets out of whack the least tiny bit, then you're Fux0r3d!
I have a problem on that box with lockups, and freezes. for some reason the connectors for the Hard Drives want to loosen, everynow and then from heat, and I have a PCI ATA card that does the same thing. I get that IRQ Crash and the machine starts freezing up, and I just shut it down, push all the cables, connectors and stuff, back snugg and it goes back to working alright. But after wifey watched me loose 50Gb of Mp3's to Drive crashes Several times and blaming, POS Machine..I got to get a new Laptop.

If you don't have a WindowsXP disk, how did you install WindowsXP? You can get the WindowsXP Boot disk program for the Home Edition from Microsofts Webpage. But, you will need six 3.5 Floppy Disks to extract the file. They might contain a repair utility. But, you may or may not still need the original OS disk.

It sounds like you may have a hardware error which couldn't have been caused by BootDisk or Logon Studio. You may have to wipe your hard drive and try a new OS install. But, if you don't have the original WinXP OS disk, this option is impossible. But, this way, if the OS installation fails, you will definitely know that the problem is hardware related. Good Luck.

Also, do you have a laptop or a desktop computer?

XP would already on the computer when I bought it. The computer giving me problem is a desktop, but I do have a laptop. Also, I was wondering. If I were to install another OS, say Windows 2000, on the desktop, would I able to access my files in XP from the other OS?

I found a webpage regarding your problem. It seems that the CDR4_xp.sys file is the problem. As I thought, it is a CDR driver issue which is related to your CD drive(hardware) and it has nothing to do with BootDisk or LogonStudio. Maybe a SP2 install caused it or CDR software install, or maybe bad CDR drivers. But, try this webpage, someone had a solution. Good Luck. http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/23189/

ChasUGC thanks for the link, it really help me alot. I finaly was able to boot into safe mode. Now I don't think it was BootDisk or LogonStudio, but another program I had just instlled, Alcohol 120%. Again thanks for your help and the link.
