Problems since installin WindowBlinds 4.3

Since ive downloaded and installed this piece of software, and having installed roughly 6 "skins" I now have erros appearing everytime i right click on an icon in any folder i open up - such as my received files. It freezes, then tells me there a Dr Watson degugger program error which needs to close and a windows explorer problem. I have to use the task manager to clear the errors and get back to the windows screen.

Any thoughts??

I'm thinking that you may have a problem with a "shell extension", something that plugs into explorer to add features to it - and sometimes, hidden bugs. First, check for spyware, then try using this tool to try disabling non-microsoft extensions: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/shellexview.html

Cheers for that mate - ive downlaoded the prog from your link, but im afraid after only having a pc for 5 months and little knowloedge - all of what im reading on it is going completely over my head.Theres loads of non microsoft "files" or whatever u call em there. Guess ill just have to put up with it.

Well you could try disabling them all and see if that helped, then putting them back a few at a time (or rather, 1/2, then 1/4 . . .)

My guess.

Install norton to check for a virus.

Next, Download Adware to check for spyware programs like TGR said.

Just my 2 cents.

Do you have any other shell type programs installed on your computer?

Do you have third-party toolbars in your Explorer toolbar? Like Yahoo, Alxa, Common Names, etc. ?  Some of these can cause real problems.

A goodly proportion of Computer issues are down to the 'user'...and these days the most common one will be inadvertent infection....spyware and/or virii.

It is not always safe to assume you are clean because nothing is found.  Generally you'll need alternate checkers...some miss some things others find them, etc....

here, here. Also, if you had spyware killer software on your machine, and it wasn't active, and then you installed a ThemeXP or other spyware producing software, your spyware killer program may now be broken. It happened to me. I knew I had spyware, but Spybot found nothing. So, I installed Adaware, and it found a few of them. Then, I installed Spyware Doctor and it found tons of them. Eventually, I will have to uninstall Spybot, and reinstall it. But, at least the spyware is gone.

It really sounds to me like you have some other shell software, like StyleXP installed, that hacks the operating system with illegal dll's.
Windowblinds does not modify the operating system, so you shouldn't have shell problems with it.

Yup, spyware can really cause you problems. One being your Internet connection speed will start limping.

I use Adware myself and it works great. However I would like to install a 2nd spyware program just to see if I have any hidden objects'

I guess most importantly: Is it possible to have two Spyware programs installed at once?

Please provide a link. to an alternative Spyware program that is free.
Is Spybot free

Yes.

Spybot is free.

AdAware SE is free.

(too lazy to find the links...use google, and you'll find other stuff too )

Yes, but you don't want two programs that are similar running in the background at the same time. The simplest thing to do is turn off all background scanning in both programs. This way when you shut one program down, it is completely shut down. Then, you can start the other program and let it scan.

There are also spyware programs that will do a free online scan.

Spybot is here.http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

It is strange, but neither Spybot nor Adaware found all the spyware on my system. It took a third spyware program to find most of the stuff on my system. I will probably get a fourth and fifth one. This spyware stuff is sneaky.

Jafo knows a lot more free spyware scanners than I know too.

I had trouble at one time....knew I had a problem but couldn't get Spybot or Adaware to admit it....so I used the online checker from Pest Patrol....found it instantly....but only gave painfully tedious manual removal instructions.....I gave up and bought it.....it's still the most reliable catcher I've found....guess it's 'you get what you pay for'....

3rd party Spyware removal. lol.....I just feel bad for so many who have no idea what A spyware program is.

Ahhhh, the money to be made.

Jafo-
Have you seen this new update from microsoft. Called the CDI-engine.
It looks scary to me. What does it do really.

I believe it is to track illegal software installed on customers PC's. Even thou they don't say that. 'ofcourse'

Don't feel bad, PcCustomizer. I have seen a lot of computer users who..
have no idea what A spyware program is.

Then, their programs won't start, the internet won't work, and I have come to the rescue, to show them that they have 100 spyware files installed on their computer, or worse.

This site is one of the very few sites that won't install spyware when you install "freeware" programs. "The world is a jungle, and the virtual world is a jungle too" In the real world, we have viruses, spies, and trojan horses. In the virtual world we have..ditto.

ChasUGC-
Thank you for the link. I downloaded Spybot. Jafo was right!

Sure enough it found some objects' that Adware did not.

I love that feeling of.......'gotcha'

If you downloaded a theme from EZ Theme or a ThemeXP, you probably have a lot more than that. I got Spyware Doctor(not free) and it found tons of stuff that was truly spyware that Spybot and Adaware could not find.
