need help editing skin in skinstudio

In Skinstudio, Left tree-controls-system buttons.

Sorry, took a chance you knew SKS a little. When you open skin studio, on the left side is a list of skin parts so to speak. that is the left tree. In that list is a catagory called controls. Click on that. then you will see system buttons. click on that and then you will see on the right side (right tree) your image being displayed. All the properties listed on the right correspond to that image only.

hmmm...sorry i'm such a noob.. but what option exactly in the right pane (after i've correctly navigated to the right area) would i choose to just change that text to black? i tried changing all the options under "text colors" to black, but that didn't seem to work... are those even the right options to change? also, do i need to re-load the skin in windowsblinds in order for it to take effect?

You need to reload the skin first, before it will work. (dont forget to save first!)

(and dont overwrite the original skin, if you can avoid it. Better to "Save As..." something else)

i changed all teh fields under "test colors" to black, saved it (using the "zip for distribution" option, and as a .wba file) i then re-loaded the via the "install skin from disk" option in windowsblinds. is that what i should be doing? are those the right fields to change?

Pretty sure that those are the right settings. The program could be taking the text from an odd location.
There is a good chance that when you are installing from disc the file is not overwriting the old file. It happens all the time. 2 methods...Try it again but first find the old file and delete it first. zip file also. Completley remove any old versions you have. Then install from disc. ...or Before closing skin studio you can "save as" , rename the file, then save. then you dont need to delete the old versions because the file names are different. The you can install from disc.
Hopefully thats the problem or you would have to go through skinstudio messsing with text colors until you find the right one.

I have a feeling it may be the text color on the "system buttons". Maybe.......

Yeah, I just checked that Boxxi, you may be right.

influx2k, in the center pane there are tabs. Click the one that says preview, then the one that says windows. You will see the system buttons there. For some reason it seems that the program you are using may only take the text color and not the rest of that button. Click the button that says default, then on the far right window pane you will see a window with six white text colors. This may be the problem.

If not, try looking in the preview window again, then scroll down the left lower arrow to the Classic Colors selection. Click on it, then click on anything in that window. This will take you to the colours section on the right pane. Here you can find most of the common skin colours. There is even a system button text color and it is white too! I would try changing this one first.

thanks guys... that does work... however, now i'm running into another problem... if i change that text color to something visible, it also changes a different system button that is not white like that, but has a blue gradient color scheme like the rest of the skin... so when i change it to something legible for the white system button, it make it hard to read on the other button!!! what might be the best way to solve thsi problem is to change the background color of the "white" system button only, and just leave the text white for both style buttons... so, how exactly would i do that?

Yeah, orange is used in that skin. Try changing the text to some shade of orange.

I'm serious. Look at the mouse over frame on the system buttons. It is an very interesting shade of orange. Why not make the button text that color too. Or maybe you could use black for the text but, I think orange would be nicer. Better yet, use a different skin. There are thousands of them. The problem is that Blackcomb is a dark skin. I have this problem all the time with dark skins. They are very tricky, to make totally functional in all the different programs. Most programs seem to prefer lighter skins.
