When anyone posts a comments in a thread, the thread is moved to the top of the list on the board. Someone may not have an answer to a question, but wants to help the thread get noticed by 'bumping' it up.

If your referring to the term "bumped" used in discuss groups or message boards, it means your topic has been "bumped" or moved to the top of the board, perhaps because it was a topic worthy of attention. This can be done by someone simply hitting the submit button without really adding a comment.
