Screenshot spamming

I find it highly annoying what is going on in the screenshot section. >

A 'singular' flood of screenshot submissions is an irritating 'chore' to deal with.

When one individual is merrily submitting 50% of the screenshot uploads he is monopolizing the moderators' time with what is 'supposed' to be of curiosity value.

Screenshots are to display skinners' works-in-progress, or a user's current selection of others' works.

Both uses benefit from added descriptions of the displayed skins, etc.

If people validated their screenshot uploads with details as to why it was chosen as an upload then there'd be more sense to them  [and probably would stem such a flood somewhat].

Spare a thought for the admins....surely one screenshot upload every other day is more than enough....

I would like to see a requirement to list the names and authors of the skins displayed.

"Thanks to all the authors" is mindless and repetitive.

It really gripes me if I see something I like and there is no clue as to where it came from.

It also might slow down the uploads (a little work involved)

Just my 2 cents.

...with links to their works if possible takes a little time, but if you really want to "Thank" all the authors

I agree...unless its a work in progress from a skinner(and it would still be better to use an image host like Image Shack)all ss's should have links to everything visible. At least give all the Authors names so you could search their libraries.(make it a rule)If its too much trouble, dont post it.

I agree with all the above entirely.

The last couple of weeks the screenshot section has become monotonous and time consuming

Heck limit them to one a week or less.

if I've improved on my theme I should edit the one I've uploaded before?

I mean, if I get bad comments on my first attempt, then somehow improved drastically, will others who read the comments like go "wtf is wrong with the reviewers?!"

or vice versa, I submit a cool theme, getting rave reviews, then later I replaced the theme with a horrid one..... won't they go "WTF?!" too?

can I edit my comments? I've not tried it before though

Improved a screenshot?....Sure, update it or even upload a new one....whichever you prefer.....

The 'issue' is with the few people who monopolize the section, and our time by uploading anything up to 6 or 8 at a time...then come back the next day with more.

It's absurd....

I think that should be one of the requirements for uploading a screenshot. If you can't tell who made the parts of your desktop AND provide links to the skins, icons, players, walls, etc., you shouldn't be able to upload it here.

i think one a day limit is plenty. those of us who mod/skin, take more than one day to build a desktop.. most of my uploads are screen shots, i like to show my modifications to the skins i download here...

i normally post links or names or both to the skins i mod for my desktop's i post ...

flooding the screens section is hampering the mods to do their volenter jobs effevtively.. i would suggest an addition to the upload page asking those who upload to do so responsibly.also again i would suggest limiting them to one per day, per user, this would slow the flooding uploads to a minimum and maybe force those who are flooding the section to upload only those which they are most proud of.

for those who are over flowing the screens shots section.. your intentions may be good and all.. but try to keep the uploading to a min. popularity is not about quantity but quality and originality .IMO i would rather see a well built/modded desktop than a flood of ready made screens...

just my 2 cents....

I agree with the most part about limiting the number of screenshots submissions however tracing back some of the links for applications or wallpapers that were downloaded maybe months before posting the screenshot would be a bit of a pain.

Just a thought, but what about renaming it the WIP section and limit it to such?

People that wanted to compile desktops showing various themes, icons, etc. could still use the Themes section. Of course they would need to comply with that section's guidelines, as far as links, etc.

I have already suggested on the admin board that we insist on names of skins and their authors in ALL screenshots. I too find it most annoying when I see something I like in a screenshot, and all it says in the comments is " Thanks to all the authors".  I hope this idea gets passed as a necessity to having your SS posted here.......... * super*.

At this rate, the SS section should surpass the Wallpapers before X-Mas

140+ SS in less than a month. I'd say thats a record

I'd second that thought ... If I want to post a shot I'll do it on the message board.

Put a limit, one a week/one a month, whatever, and reject those that don't comply with the proper acknowledgements and links. That should speed up the process for the Mods and the section won't become over crowded.

I'm guilty of putting 'thanks to all the authors' myself. I'll be more direct in the descriptions from now on.
