How long do recessions usually last?

I had one hit me two years ago and its killing me! My economy has been halved, my influence got knocked down by 75% and my spending is under 15% or I'll be in constant debt. I'm sure its hitting the other races to but this is just painful!

I believe the event length can vary widely. I've heard of recessions lasting for many years but I've experienced short ones too.

Tough luck, just hang in there.

Are you sure that it's just the recession doing that? I've had them hit and not be nearly that severe. Look at your expenses - particularly the % of your income being used by your military, and maintainance on social improvements.

As for how long it'll last, I don't actually know but my impression from having had them (and other similar random events) is that the end date is semi-random (I'd assume there's an upper limit on how long they can last).
