More than an MOO clone though...

I am an old space-war gamer who has enjoyed games like the MOO series (except MOO3, ick) and Civ a great deal. GalCiv has a lot to offer the genre and many of the suggestions in this series of posts could only improve the game.

However, we don't want GalCiv to become an MOO clone. There need to be some unique features that make it stand out. Some additional ideas:

1) What about players being able to create their own very advanced technologies from a menu-check based system? This way, instead of just getting more advanced levels of an already achieved technology players might be able to develop additional techs like increased range, race abilities, etc.

2) Customizing ship appearances by the types of design modules added to them.

3) Being able to constuct space stations IN a star system (generates system specific benefits).

4) Being able to use the build planets/build star technologies to actually do something. Build star could be used by ponying up to a "junk" system and then converting it with appropriate ultra-high costs, time to build, etc.

5) A deeper trade system with supply/demand considerations.

It's hard to think of many things not already expounded upon in these posts. GalCiv's a great game that, with some care, could become the true classic in the field.

Great work.

I more or less agree with all the above, except number 5. I don't like that idea. Too much more micromanage for no reason. Unless (unlikely of course) it is a game option.
