Submitting Losses

How many ppl submit losses? I've only played two games so far, one win and one horrible, miserable stomping into the dirt. I didn't know you could submit losses, until I did some checking around and found some ppl who did.

Just wondering how many do. It seems like the right thing to do. Oh, and my severe whipping is gone now from savegames so I can't submit it. :(

Barry,

There is a good reason and a bad reason you don't see many losses. The good reason is that probably a lot of games that will be losses do not get finished... people quit when it's obviously a lost cause. I had a game where I was 62 turns from Battleship and Drendin battleships outnumbered my Frigates. I was in debt, they had tons of money. They declared war on me and I elected not to play it out.

The bad reason is that the Metaverse will punish you for your losses. Your score is based on all of your scores (or at least your recent games) so submitting a very low score from a loss will hurt your score and there is therefore little incentive to submit them.

I posted a great loss and it killed my score. Now I can't submit games anymore to Metaverse for some strange reason. Does anyone have a greater loss than mine?

Ah, well that makes sense. I'm not sure if I will submit losses, or not. It still seems like the correct thing to do, but I wouldn't want to pummel my score just to do the right thing! LOL

By the way, did ANZAC just shut down?

Wow -936!?!?!?!?!!!

You must have ... accomplished some amazing feat to score like that.

-936, ROFL. My very first game I played, I had no idea what I was doing. I lost and submitted it just to check out the Metaverse system. Since then, I haven't lost a game since I bail out if it's clear it's all over. Just last night, I was quite pissed off that a game that had been going well suddenly turned into a pit when all 4 remaining races declared war on me the same turn. 10 turns later, I didn't have a ship to my name and the transports were marching in...

Yog, I can't believe you've got a 0 score on a win...how did you do that?

The bloody program reported my score as "anomalous". Considering I've never installed a single mod or library item, I was quite ticked off. I think it was just a problem with that version number of the game. There's a two month gap in between my reported scores while I was playing that version where it simply wouldn't report to the Metaverse at all... except for that one time when it was borked.

i thought that the metaverse doesnt hand out negative scores. isnt a 0 the lowest your supposed to go?

Yes, laugh you a@@'s off since it is quite funny now. A little history on this: It was one of my earlier games, and I was doing ok, but everyone decided to declare war on me and started kicking my butt no matter what I did, plus there were a few drinks involved; so, I decided to tell the aliens to F off!! You will never get my planets and people, so I destroyed all my colonies in a rage, and for some reason, submitted the game. It was only a -100 something before they messed with the scoring system. You can imaging my pain and embarrassment now.

Regarding anomalous scores. If you still have the relevant save game, try resubmitting it. This worked for me the one time I got an anomalous score--for some reason the detector was fine with the game the second time.

Lord Dooku,

Have you tried submitting as simply "Monkson" (with a capital "M")? The Jedi Republic needs the contributions of every Knight if it is to bring peace and order to the Metaverse.

Yes, I even changed my name back to Monkson and tried it with no success. It was a 10000+ pointer and thats what makes it so frustrating!

Count Dooku,

Make sure you use Monkson in the future. The thing is I don't know if you can submit the same game under two different player names. That may be your problem right now.

This is kinda funny and kinda frustrating.

On my last win (the 7700ish one), I zapped a few planets I had taken because the snotbrained aliens had scorched them and the morale was dragging me down, and I had also dumped a couple dozen bases because i no longer needed them. From what I have read here and other places today, I prolly capped my score lol.

Oh well, live and learn :p

What will happen if I change my Metaverse GalCiv player nickname where you register it with your serial number? Will it let me and wipe out what I currently have or just deny me?

The Nickname will change nothing.
The player name will change the player name that shows up on the metaverse to the new one.

Dooku,

The nickname is just a visual identifier that shows up in the Metaverse listings. Games are scored to your "player name" - in your case, Monkson. Found this out because, unlike many players, mine were different. After changing my nickname to Obi-Wan, I have successfully submitted games under "Lone Locust" that post correctly to the new Obi-Wan nickname.

Might just be a problem at Stardock. A lot of people seem to be complaining about scores not posting lately.

One problem that I've worked through: When I click the "Submit" button, nothing happens. After waiting about 20 seconds or so until the system stops accessing, I press "Submit" again, which brings up the "Game submission reported successful" popup and the main menu. I need to press the "Close" button TWICE to get rid of the popup. Despite the multiple mouse clicks, my games seem to be posting correctly.

Can we email our saved games to the tech support people and have them post it?

You don't have to wait 20 secs between clicks heh. I have always had to double click the submissions, but it's basically instant.
