An idea to lesson the luck factor in combat and bring in strategy

Although I still like this game I believe there's just too much luck involved in battle. A great improvement I believe would be a series of techs you could research, the first would raise your lowest attack/defense roll 10% above zero. Maybe five techs in all, so when you've researched the last, your attack/defense rolls would be at least 50% of the ships capability. I realise it's all relative and that the AI could do the same thing, but maybe the AI wouldn't see it as quite a high priority and not research it as agressively as the player. At least it would give those of us who don't like the fact that the battling is actually "based on luck" the ability to bring some strategy in to the equation.

Wolfkin -- Anytime you're given the option of following more than one path eg. --> deciding wether you want to build techs to increase your attack/defense roll or --> deciding not to build those techs and just relying on the luck of the roll -- {which means of course you'll be using those turns to research diffent techs} is a strategic decision :)

Bluewulf,
your idea as described does NOT include following more then one path because there is noe real reason NOT to researcht those techs. It just is another form of techs which make your ships stronger and whoever researches that before his opponents do has an advantage - exactly the same as it is with all the other techs.

Not sure I follow this. The "luck" factor in combat seems pretty small to me as it is. There's just enough to keep it interesting.
