hi

1)do ship improvements automatically apply to existing ships such as shields and deflectors after they are researched?

2)is there a list to tell what improvements each individual planet has such as shipyards?

1) Yep, tech improvements apply to all existing ships. Where as planet improvements, like shipyards, only affect ships manufactured after the improvement was built.

2) To see what a planet has built, click on the "Details" button in the lower left-hand courner of the planet screen. You can also see all the bonuses the planet has as well. So if you got a random event on the planet that gave a bonus or penalty, it will show up there.
