Kicking and screaming, we enter the cellular age

My wife and I fought it for as long as we could. We tried to avoid it, we convinced ourselves and others that we didn't need to, that we didn't want to, that we could get along without it. But we were wrong.
And so, kicking and screaming, we have entered the cellular age.
I don't necessarily have anything against cell phones, but we didn't see the need, didn't want the expense, and thought we could avoid it. I will admit to having some attraction to fighting it for a while, but no good reason for it. There have been times, though, that we both looked at each other and said "Wow, that would have been easier if we had cell phones!" I could hear the screeching of tires on yet another lane of the information superhighway, I knew out time approached.
Then, last week, amidst car issues, insane schedules that included my wife being in downtown Durham late, school craziness, sick children and carpool issues, well, I buckled under the strain. Cingular became our friends and we merged with the traffic.
Our main purpose is to contact each other, which has really been nice. Already I can see the benefit, and like high speed internet, I doubt it will take long for me to wonder how we ever lived without them. But I plan to remember, at least a little, and keep my use down as much as possible.
We may have entered the age, but I hope to still be an observer, at least to a degree. I think I fear that being too connected will prevent me from my moments of precious solitude.
