Why the difference in travel ranges?

Why is my travel range for colony ships only 1 sector on tiny maps but 3 sectors on gigantic maps? I've not checked the other ships but are all the travel ranges for all ships adjusted for the map size?

Yes they are all adjusted. You get something like +1/2 map sizes if I recollect correctly.
