It's a library from MS Visual C++ - I think to do with debugging.

I've put a copy on my website http://www.alex-robertson.co.uk/msvcrtd.dll

Note about 385k. Download into your galciv directory and it should fix the problem

USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I'd agree - except that it leaves those who've tried to upgrade in a difficult position until Brad a) notices, and b) prepares an update.

The library is a standard one from the Microsoft VC++ redistributables - the only question is likely to be which precise version Brad uses. That said, this version works with my update, so....

It doesn't patch your game, incidentally - it is a support library that something in the game is calling routines from - when it's fixed, you can just delete it.

Yea to be honest, I have no idea why it would require that file. I am, to be honest, quite annoyed that a library would be updated that requires a new file without notice (i.e. I didn't know about this either).

Obviously it works on our systems since we have VC++. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to sort it out.

Here's a link to it from Stardock until we decide how we're goign to approach this issue (I think it's used for the metaverse debugging stuff but I"m not sure).

It could be something as simple as a debugging flag left set in a module somewhere in the build...

Way back when I actually did coding, you used to be able to bind the DLL to the program. This keeps you out of DLL Hell. With common configurations of 256MB system memory, whats another 385K among friends.

Have had Gal Civ since before release and have not had any problems.

Have Drengin Net so have kept up with all the latest betas and have had no problems t'il now.

GalCiv crashes to desktop before doing anything on the screen but it does change my resolution.

Have not made any changes to my system in the past 8 months or more.

I don't think it is related to the missing .dll file because just for the heck of it I tried downloading it to my GalCiv dir. No effect.

Any help appreciated.

Further to my post above; debug.err ends with the following lines;

Debug Message: Create setup screens.
*DEBUG ERROR: *** MWinEditFields::Create - Unable to load sprite book ModAbilities ***

Anyone have a clue what this could be about ?
