Your alignment and why

What alignment do you usually choose to play as (if you play a bunch give your metaverse alignment) and why?

I tend more towards evil..I just can't pass up the short term benefits sometimes. And during a war I'm not about to take a huge cut in finances, population, or soldiering!

I've never even had a pure evil game, good doesn't seem to accumulate fast enough :notsure:

Usually evil, although once I deliberately went good just to find out what the UI and music for it was. Thought it was really bright and serene so I went back to evil. And yeah, I concur, the short term benefits outweigh the long term cons. It doesn't really matter if someone declares war on you when you have all these bonuses to soldiering and ship quality because they will be inferior peasants in comparison.

I am hardcore evil. I do agree that the short term benefits are worth it. Even more so on smaller maps (which is what I mostly play).

Good supposedly helps out your diplomacy, but that's nothing that a few AMM's and some Death Knights can't take care of ;) .

Good makes for better diplomacy and is definitely better than evil on higher difficulty levels, except maybe on smaller maps.

I started out playing pure evil. I figured I had a warmongering style so having good relations were unimportant. Besides, I could conquer or trade the good techs I needed anyway.

After they made Maso a lot more difficult, I found that not getting into wars was a lot more valuable than getting those PQ and production bonuses. I also liked getting Trade Centres early. They really give a very nice boost to planets before Terraforming.

I tend to go for the "good" choices all the time. But I have yet to finish a game with something better than "chaotic good".
Yes it makes for a more difficult game, but I like mu games to last long and not be only about war and conquering all the time. It happens but usually I try to make my gestion of the empire the more realistic as I can imagine, a sort of galactic rpg. And for playing good, I guess I grew up with star wars and star trek ;)

Mine varies both by mood and game circumstance (which is why I'm Neutral in the metaverse even though I've only got a game or two that I was actually Neutral).

Both paths have their benefits but the thing that makes good such a bitch is how hard it is to get you alignment high enough for some of the really nice benefits (e.g. trade centers) versus evil.

Indeed;

I can't seem to be able to get past chaotic good. I doubt I'll manage any better in my current game: for the moment all the events I had were something like -10,-20% to PQ for the good choice, so I picked neutral. I won't help getting to the saintly mark...

I normally pick about half good and half evil choices. However, the last game I played, I picked all good choices and was suprised at the good techs that come with it. I ended up researcing all tech before I killed everyone off to see what kind of score I would get and it was high IMO for a medium normal game. I dont know if it was because I was pure good or researched all the techs or both. I remember reading Ray talking about how his evil scores were lower that his good scores. Dont remember exactly.

My experience with playing pure evil against all good AI yielded significantly lower scores. My theory is that the alignment bonus is wonky for this setting. Can't confirm it though.

Akhem... [cough]... ok... so my alignment... yes.

I prefer to work on my own schedule when it comes to engaging in wars. Because this isn't possible for the early stages of a game, I select as many goody-goody-oh-so-fruity choices as my stomach can tolerate. However, only once have I seen the white, blinding, burning through my retina, mind-numbing, ultra-pain inducing interface. :notsure: So... once I no longer need the assistance of those lovey-dovey, sucker 'n pucker empires, I backstab them. STAB STAB STAB!!! I also select every evil choice from then on... even if I'm sacrificing 190 million citizens for 1 bc. I mean really, money is money... even if my treasury has 239,375 bcs. And to summarize... BLOOD!!! BLOOD!!! I WANT TO SEE THE BLOOD!!! DRINK IT!!! SWIM IN IT!!! Have some jasmine tea. KILL THEM ALL!!! KILL THEM AAAAAAAAAAAALL!!!

Kit has a serious anger management problem! LOL

I play good mostly, but I have swung to the dark side a time or two. I just find that it doesn't really make my games more enjoyable, as everybody hates you (even the other evil empires). So, I'm stuck saving the worms... ;)

I try to be good most of my games to get an ally (though sometimes I'm not sure if I am making the correct choices) :notsure: , and that way I can pick on a weaker empire and grow my empire. I have played evil and I can see it has its advantages too. I think it's time for me to play another evil game to balance out my alignment some more. :D

I am currently in a challenging small galaxy and am picking all evil choices. Funny thing is almost all the good races were killed off pretty fast and now I am holding off the Drengin who are supposed to be my friends. Traitor bastards!

Usually I play good, but I usually never make it to pure good because I always get the worms pq bonus. I also like being friends with the other good races. I hate being at war with more than one person at a time, and it seems that it always ends up that way when I play evil.

i played a mixture when i first started, im now trying to become as evil as possible, right now im "chaotic evil", i want to make it too "very evil" eventually.

the reason why i picked evil in my games is because i like it when the drengins tell me that they want to snuggle me! :D

actually the real reason why im trying to make my metaverse allignment evil has more to do with the metaverse then anything. i noticed that the majority of the players pick good allignments, with not too many people picking the evil side. i decided to be more-or-less "different" and so i decided to try to bring my allignment from "neutral" to "evil".

i was actually even considering of leaving the Illuminati to start a strict, first ever, "evil only" empire, where if any memeber in the empire ends up with an overall allignment of neutral or good, they would get kicked out of the empire.

Your local Spymaster surveys many empires. In the course of my studies, I find that chaotic good is the most common alignment in the top 10 empires. Therefore, people in big empires seem to think that good grants the most long term benefits. I guess that the most common pattern is to take the best PQ bonus colonization event (which is usually major evil shift) and then go good on all other choices.

My own personal preference is across the board. I adapt to whatever alignment does the job. Good is prefered, but I have games that are pure evil and pure good alike, as well as a few straight down the middle. Been pure good my last two games because peace and trade were paying off.

I usually just play and what comes out comes out.

I used to revel in being as evil as possible. But being good is much more difficult and more fun that being evil. Occasionally if I'm getting my butt handed to me by the AIs, I will make some evil choices, but not enough to bring up the evil UI.

It's a shame for a Jedi to admit it in public, but game alignment is just a tool to help you adjust to your immediate needs. Evil empires respect strength and don't give a hoot what your alignment is; good empires hate evil ones, unless you're shooting at their enemies and giving them lots of pretty toys to play with.

So, I usually wind up as chaotic good - trying to maximize diplomatic bonuses, without crippling myself on any particular event.

On one game, I had the Drengin and Yor as neighbors, and went PURE evil...but only once.
