Surrender

Yes that's what happens unfortunately . . . you can negotiate a temporary peace if you think their surrender is imminent and can probably get most of their bases as a condition of treaty.

Then mercilessly backstab them afterwards . . . not that I'd ever do such a thing (snicker, giggle, snort, hicup!) erhm.

How can you tell when other races are about to Surrender and who to? I just finished my first game and all the majors ended up surrendering to the Arceans.
I was at war with the $%#^*(@$! Fundamentalists and they all just went off one after the other. It threw a big spanner in the works as instead of several small weak empires to pick of I had one only slightly smaller me. It broke alot of my trade routes also and started costing me big time.

You can't always tell who they are going to surrender to. In one game the Drengin surrendered to me when I was far away from them and in fact never made official contact with them. I probably wouldn't have won without that though.

It's hard to tell who they will surrender too. I think the important thing is who that AI is losing to and about to die. Let's say the Acreans are killing the Yor and the Yor are not at war with anyone else. If you are friends with the Yor or you are at war with the Arceans, then the Yor should surrender to you to fight off the enemies the Arceans. If the Yor has no friends and there's no obvious enemy of the Arceans, they will give up to the Arceans. If I'm at war with one race and they don't have any allies, then they usually surrender to me. More complicated situations make it harder to predict.
