Used game

New to the board. Have not bought the game yet.

I read something about a code on the back of the CD case that is required for certain website items. (registration code).
The game is available "used" on Amazon. Will buying this game used cause registration conflicts, and/or cause problems with current available updates and future patches, ect.?

I highly suggest that you do NOT buy Galactic Civilizations "used", from Amazon, EBay, or any site that deals in "used" software. The reason? To get the addons, i.e. free BonusPak, downloadable improvements, events, and so on, it is required that you register a user nick as well as register your unique serial number.

In the vast majority of the cases that persons who have reported "problems with registration", the fact is that they have bought the game secondhand, without the game-unique serial number. The originial owner of the game will often register his own serial number so he can get the updates, and since you do not need the CD to play, will sell it second hand. Which it is bad for the person who is buying it from him, for that person will most likely get a useless game.

If you want to avoid a big headache, buy it retail or from Stardock. You'll be doing yourself a favor.

Thank you. At least I had a little bit of foresight. How unusual. lol.

the other curiosity I have is regarding the metaverse. It there detailed information in the manual about what it is, how it works, what the different color regions on the map are, ect..? Or is it a dead horse.

I am intrigued with galciv. I love the TBS genre, dislike most rts games, and find it annoying that it is so hard to find any tbs game, let alone one of quality. I currently am debating if I should shelf-ware my new MoO3 game. I like micromanagement, and that one leaves me with the feeling I paid good money to watch someone's else's version of the perfect macro strategy with a game built to suit that end, and my POV is ignored. (not getting into it.......grrr).

Don't know much about the net, but where is this chat room that was posted and how do I get there? I know what IRC is, but don't know any web sites used for access (or even if it is a browser related chat network)

Thanks for the quick reply....... and continued patience (in advance).

Alive and well! No information on the Metaverse is found in the game manual, but if you read enough posts on this forum, you'll get the idea.

You actually will need to buy the game to chat as there is a program from Stardock that has the chat room in it. The program is called Stardock Central.

And as far as MOO3 is concerned...I haven't heard anyone say anything good about it. Try GalCiv...it's awesome!! :HOT:

It is not necessary for you to get the game to access the chat room. If you use any IRC client, you can access Stardock's channels. The server to access is irc.stardock.com. Once connected, type /join #GalCiv.
The GalCiv channel on the server has varying periods of activity. Sure, it's not real active, but usually if you ask anyone in the channel about the game, they will be more than pleased to answer any questions you might have.

~~Theoden feels rather stupid~~

Umm...yeah, I didn't know that. Sorry for the false info. I don't do IRC...I really wouldn't get any work done if I did! :D

I'd say if you'd like general rather than technical info though, here is the place to come. and #stardock usually gets you more techies if you have a tech question than #galciv.
