definition, please

Okay, I'm certainly not new to GalCiv, but can someone tell me what a "mod" is? Here I've been thinking it's like a modification to the game, kinda like the mods for Half-Life change that game, but some of these threads don't make sense using that definition.

Are some people using the word "mod" to talk about the modifications you sometimes get (like, you found an anomaly that gives you 1% military bonus, stuff like that)?

that is correct... you can make your own mods for galciv or d/load ones that others have made.. they are like little expansion packs that add new anomilies, planet events, random events.. etc....

I don't think anybody is really using it in the second sense that you're asking about, Mark (getting a bonus from an anomaly).

Basically anything you can download from the "Library" section is a mod. There's a lot of planetary colonization events, some United Planet issues, a few new ships, several new anomalies, some tech tree expansions, etc. Anything that adds an event or option that wasn't in the game originally.
