Galactic Demo: The Time Limit

I been looking through alot of the files, and I use the notepad and hex editor. But im not good with the hex editor part, rather I can change anything I can understand thats in english. But does anyone know if I am able to change the timelimit from 2180 - 2190 to like another 10 years later or something? Yes, I know that probably the main thing about the demo is the time limit to make me wanna buy the full game but..i need more.. time.. need.. more..time..

ROFL That's exactly the same thoughts I was having that made me go out and buy the full thing.

Eh.. well.. anyone! Can someone let me have a link to download a galciv/data directory or maybe a save game with a huge map past the year 2190 or something!

That's what I wanted to tell him too. ;)

Get the game, Sean. You wouldn't regret it. :)

BTW, couslee, have you finally managed to get your download or the CD yet?

Yes Ray. Matter of fact, I am nearing the end of my first game. Will be starting an Empire. I have a basic story line done, but not sure if I want to tweak it. I have never written any fiction/role playing stories before, so is new territory. Worst thing that could happen if ppl laughing and calling it stupid. (like I give a shit lol). Although having an acomplished writer persue it first would be nice.

Not playing the beta, will wait until thats finished. 1.05(?) is fine.

(edit) The DL beat snail mail by 2 days. LOL

That's great! Would certainly pop by your empire's opening ceremony.

I'm not a writer but I wouldn't mind giving you some comments on the storyline if you like. My email is [email protected]

couslee:

I noticed in another thread you are having trouble with a logo for your empire. I'd be glad to resize a graphic if you want me to, or I could even find something unique for you. What is the title of the empire you are working on? Better yet, are you a theme empire like the Fellowship or a location empire like Midwestern Confed.?

I am really looking for something along the lines of a coat-of-arms with a green bird-of-prey in the center. I am open for options along those lines.

Are PCX files the only kind accepted at metaverse? What about .jpg or ?

I thought that the answer that we gave you at our forum about software piracy was enough to let you know that you cannot tamper with the game to extend it beyond the limits set by the authors, but looks like no.

The time limit in the demo makes me wonder... just how much of the real game is in the demo? If you were able to last past those ten years, how much research could you do?

Resize this to 32 pixel x 32 pixel and you're good to go

Thanks ThoR ;) problem is not having a prog installed to do that. I have one that came with a portable printer port burner I have. Guess it's time to install it on the new rig. Nothing on this one yet that can edit .jpg file sizes (or type, or anything else....winblows XP )

The challange with the demo, is can you beat it (win a game). I came close to that, but bought the game instead of trying for that bar.

Okay, I resized it for you. Don't be alarmed at how small it looks, it will look as large as all the others when you use it.

I was going to resize it for couslee but was too engrossed with my game. Thanks Theoden.

Hehe...I was just quicker! I'd like to see couslee's empire do well.

Thank you much. I am nearing the end of my second game, and will start it as soon as I submit the score. I am also going to put the story line in the appropriate thread.

guess we can let this one sink to 2nd page death now. lol

There's no way to extend the time limit on the demo. It's encrypted and in the EXE.

And even if someone managed to get a "Real" EXE, the game would crash because a few of the key supporting files in the demo have been stamped as demo internally and the real game and the demo both check the checksum.

I found a way to extend the demo few more plays, but it continually crashed and I had to restart from where I saved, but only allowed me to play like 4 or 5 more years at the most, but I ain't telling no one how I did it, so don't bother to ask me how I did it, I was not piracying or nothing like that, I just found a glitch on the game, that allowed me to play extended for 4 or 5 more years into the game, after that was crash after crash, so I went and bought the whole thing, so for those trying to get juice out of the lemon skin, don't be so cheap and go and buy the game.

One way to extend demo time (though not exactly...) is to transfer your save files when you buy the game. I did this, and at first it didn't work because the demo save games didn't have all the data that the regular save games had. I copied the data from one of my non-demo saves and it worked. Sadly, I was to enthralled with gigantic univereses to ever play those games, so the save games sit at the bottom of my save game list, never being touched.
