More story driven elements in the sequel

Anyone else want more story driven elements in the sequel (hopefully there is one)? Like be the first to get to a certain sector and have some bizarre plot unfold that would give you a bonus. Or have the war party demand that you produce X amount of ships or the peace party ask that you enter into a disarmament treaty if you comply you get a generous 'campaign contribution'. I bring this up b/c I was thinking today about a game I used to play (briefly) called Imperium Galactica II which the best moment in the game was when I was married off to the daughter of some local warlord. First you had to gather certain ships go to a place to fight her (you could just choose not to show up) if you beat her you STILL had options of what to do with her: marry her and forget about her, set her free, make her one of your generals. And while we're at it what else do people want to see in the GalCiv II? (I hope this isn't a topic someone else beat to death)

ps, Ray you win I joined. :p Though I have to say I loved the name G.R.O.S.S. Calvin and Hobbes are my fave comic strip.

Welcome, Darkhold!

I played Imperium Galactica II, as well and thought it was a great game. The only problem I had with it was having to switch CDs everytime you came back to the game...ala 1980's Commodore 64 games.

I agree, some story driven elements would be cool, but I would hate to see a sequential storyline. The storyline should remain fluid, but contain some fun little side events.

B4 I go on, I also have to say that GC already has some of these elements like the Fundamentalists and so forth, but a couple more would be cool! :HOT:

*L* I nearly mentioned that switching CDs nonsense in my post. Whoever programed that needed to be hit. The story ideas I had would always alow you to ignore them if you didn't care about the bonuses they'd provide. You'll notice in the examples I mentioned that none of them harm you if you just went your own way. Maybe an option to turn them off in the opening menu?

Oh and truly ALIEN aliens. I was disappointed about how in the manual it mentions the fact that humanoid isn't the standard of the galaxy yet all the aliens look pretty much human to me. I'd like to see some with truly strange motivations and contact you at random with bizarre conversations. (not exactly like the hive mind on Alpha Centuri but something strange and interesting like that)

I would love to have "quests" in the game. Would blend in well with heroes that is likely to be implemented in a sequel.

Welcome to the Fellowship, Darkhold! C&H is one of my fav comic strips too. Dilbert is another.

I woudl like to see more story elements in there too. Budget is always the issue. People are still shocked when they find out our budget was a tiny fraction of what most retail games are.

Heck, our budget was closer to the budget for one of those games in the IGF than a game you'd find at the store.

Given the success of GalCiv, we'll likely have more resources for a sequel.

Yeah, it would be interesting to know how many retail copies and downloads they managed to sell.

Well, that settles my fear of GalCiv being a flop, the way everyone was saying they haven't broke clean yet and how support was diminishing.

I think they still haven't seen any profits, yet. The way they pay software devs is really quite odd.

Brad, I think I speak for everyone when I say you guys deserve millions. Hope the cash rolls in by the truckload! I'm still trying to think of a game that has a message board that the devs regularly post to. You guys rock on your support!

Frogboy, CariElf, etc.:

Based on comments around the forums, many people - myself included - purchased the upgrade to Drengin.net just as a way of supporting what we saw as a gaming company that took players and their opinions seriously. Unlike so many others today...

Thank you again for an outstanding game and support system. If there is a downfall to GalCiv, it's that the forums, chat and Metaverse are so addictive that it cuts into my gaming time! Haven't finished a game in WEEKS...

As a former MOO fanatic, I was bitterly upset over the direction of MOO3, its plethora of bugs, and a complete lack of support from the developers. I looked at GalCiv as an alternative, and became an addict. I look forward to GalCiv II. Congrats, and keep on gaming!
