Why are the GalCiv forums so great?

Hello everyone! Am I the only one who has noticed that over the course of all these months that these forums are amongst the friendliest and funnest web forums on the net?

I cannot recall a forum for a game where there were so many participants who are pleased with the game, pleased with the community and just seem to be enjoying themselves.

Increasingly, I find myself drawn here just to bask in the comfortable glow of happy people enjoying a good game and each other's company.

Cheers to you all!

AHA!!! :D Certainly THIS one is all about me. Yes yes, I make this a wonderful place. Indeed I do! Why just last night I was telling myself, "Kit, you make this a wonderful place." "Indeed I do," I said to myself. But I can't do it alone and I'd like to thank everyone for making me... er... this forum a place that I make so great. :HOT:

Nice balance of cultural and military victories. You would make a good cultural advisor in the Viraxian Ascension. Might even find a nice symbiont for you. :D

Totally agree Emily!

Only the unofficial aow2 forums at aow2.heavengames.com come close to these forums. A whole lot of people who enjoy the game and great support and interaction by the devs.

I'm surprised just how well this place self-regulates - everything's kept pretty civil, without needing mods to go around banning people and deleting threads. How many people have been exiled from here, anyway? One? Two?

I guess it says something about the people who play GalCiv. :)

It says something about human nature. Generally calm people might get a bit rebellious when under the scrunity of moderators.

It is a nice place. Besides, if it was not interesting around here, I wouldn't be sneaking around so much. :)

I think two reasons that it is a great community (apart from great people hanging out here) is that
a) The game was so solid out-of-the-box. So instead of us having to complain about bugs etc. we could get on with enjoying the game.
b) Brad and co really took an active role, listening to feedback and releasing iterative patches that improved the game even further.

I think that created a very positive feel with people eager to contribute in a constructive way. And it just sort of flowed on from there. It would all fall apart if Kit left though. :)

Oh, man...got scared for a minute, there! LOL

Seriously, I find myself chuckling at a lot of the posts. I really enjoy it here, too.

I really get a kick out of hanging out here too. I'm on a ton of forums and this is amongst the most pleasant I'm on as well.

I think a big reason has to do with demographics of the game players themselves. The average age of a GalCiv player is about 32 years old. So most people are adults.

I think the other thing that helped was the open beta, people knew what they were getting into (for good or bad).

Emily.
Why don't you come on over and join me.

I need some female support. What with all these drunken, childish little boys, drowning in their own testosterone. LOL
