Australian Republic Communication & Recruiting Thread

Please rise for the National Anthem.

"Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited til his billy boiled
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me

Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tuckerbag
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited til his billy boiled
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me

Up rode the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred
Down came troopers one two three
Whose that jumbuck you've got in the tuckerbag?
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited til his billy boiled
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me

Up jumped the swagman and sprang into the billabong
You'll never catch me alive said he
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".

It is my pleasure as the Genotype of the Australian Republic to congratulate all good people of our lands with incredible success that our empire achieved in the recent past.

A big welcome to the new Australian Republic empire thread. :CONGRAT:

You may find it tough recruiting under a national flag though. Just ask the ANZACs (old and new). Maybe you would want to consider an Australian theme which would be attractive even to non-Australians. Just my 2 BCs.

Anyways, great to have you around. :D

ahyone would think that Australia was a huge comtinet.. not the smallest continent.. with 3 major factions in the metaverse... just goes to show how strong the Ausi's are...

The POSS chapter of GROSS, The ANZACS, and now the Australian Republic... All strong.... Imagine where we'd be if we all joined forces back under the ORIGINAL, ANZAC metaverse banner... I havn't done the figers but we'd be right up there.. maybe even 4th or third

Anyway... welcome to the MetaVerse... (Great just what the ANZACS need... another Player Poaching Empire)

Ahh, so many choices - republic, constitutional monarchy, or a life of piracy to get away from it all...

I'll choose piracy, thanks LOL

Hello . . .

I'd just like to say that in our Australian refferendum a few years back (how time flys) I voted for a Republic, and thats the honest to goodness truth!

So what went wrong? For all the time and money spent nothing seemed to be achieved. It seemed to me that a lack of compromise on the drafting of the paper was the primary pre-cursor to its failure along with the abundence of mis-information generously handed out by the pro-monachists to retain the status-quo.

What an opportunity wasted for our wonderful nation!

In the same spirit of True Nationalism and self-determination I appeal to your empire to at least consider the possibility of a union with the old ANZACs which in all fairness have had a really rough time in the last few months. Your enthusiasm and sense of humour are exactly the kind of qualities any empire would be very glad to enlist (not to mention the your obvious talent at the game itself) . . .

Please read our thread and realize we are very much open to a wide variety of suggestions and have a lot in common . . .

Thanks for your time folks . . . :)

I voted to keep the status quo - honestly, I didn't see anything great that could be achieved even if a republic went through. Spend all that money to repaint and relabel everything, and for what? To say I'm an Australian? I can already say that.

I like having a non-political Governor General as our local head of state. And so what if it's technically the Queen? At least she's so rich, it's hard to pay her off - unlike some of the pollies we've got. There's still some things that should be changed - when I signed up in the reserves, I still had to swear an oath to the Queen, and I think swearing an oath to the Aussie government (or the GG at least) would be more appropriate. Still, at the end of the day, I think the system of having a rich non-politician with no conflicts of interest at the top is a good safety catch to keep around.

I don't think the Australian Republic empire would like it if I hijacked this thread with more "pro-monarchist mis-information" , so I'll stop now :-p

I should get a stopwatch and time how long before the first flame pops up... oh wait, it's already got the time there. Kewl. :)

Ah, the calm before the storm. You'll stay with me, my loyal wombat friend, to endure the fire - won't you?

Uh-oh.

Hi this isn't a flame no no . . . I respect your point of view.

I would have thought the perks of becoming a Republic would have been obvious to such a well educated Duck for whom I have the greatest admiration. I won't bore you any further with my opinions on the matter for as you can see I am standing in an empty room.

Another time perhaps, I'd love to have someone try and convince me our Howard appointed old coight of a GG was a great choice for the job and we had some valid reason to be involved in the Alliance of the Greedy's slaughter of hundereds of thousands of Iraqi over the last 10 years through sanctions and millitary conflict . . . but as I said another time. :notsure:

/quack lifts the visor on his old pyro suit

Phew! Last few forums I've been around, posting something like that would've earned me some time on the rack...

Heh, that GG was a bad choice, you're not wrong there. But the very fact that he isn't elected makes it easier to kick him out (eventually) - plus the fact that he's supposed to represent everyone, not just one party, means he needs unified public support to survive. It would have been much harder to kick him out if he had the "mandate to govern" I'm always hearing about from the pollies.

As for Iraq - some things I agree, some I disagree, but foreign policy is a giant web of shit. Once you start looking at one thing, it leads you in fifty other places, so I'll stay well away. I mean it this time!

Besides, that sort of discussion wouldn't do anything to bait the republicans, so there's not much point, is there? ;p

Only another 3K's and we can take out Arnor, Frogboy's mob.
They have 16 players, compared to our three.
Last time I looked, 3 live players vs. 3 live players was a pretty fair fight. But watch out for Arnor around Sept. 16. Frogboy has this habit of having saved games in reserve to dump on the Meta as a new version goes public. But, for the moment, most of those 16 players are not going to be a problem.

That wasn't the intention. In a sense it is three against the rest of the Meta right now, so your empire is outgunned and outnumbered as it climbs up. I was just pointing out that your current target directly above in the rankings was not exactly running at full steam. (Then again, what empire with a significant numbers of recruits actually is these days?) But the Meta is an odd place. It is a place where 8 players ran for the top and tried to own it all, only to be stopped by their own hands and a demoralized leader. Well, that same leader remade that which was broken and look at the rampage they are causing now. So a few determined people make all the difference. Three people (or more if recruiting goes well) can still be quite a force.
