A New Name

A New Name

The Fellowship News needs your help!

Since the Fellowship News is more of an intergalactic news organization now, we'd like to rename it to something more globally acceptable. So, I'm asking everyone to submit a suggestion for the new name. The winner will be selected tomorrow at 2:00 PM (Eastern US) at which time I will make the necessary changes to the site.

The Metaverse is truly a global community, and I'd really appreciate everyone's participation! If you are having trouble thinking of good names, think of your local newspaper's name. That's a good start!

Thanks!

Oh, and I'll start it off with "The Galactic Times".

Whoops, forgot to put tomorrow!

I can't promise daily, but it is usually more than once weekly

No one said it had to be a standard Earth day. ;)

Okay, everyone. It's close enough to 2:00 PM (Eastern US).

Let the voting end...now!

Our contenders, selected by me:

The Galactic Times (me)
GalCiv Times (Qui-Gon)
Hyperion News Network (another Qui-Gon)
The Metaverse Mayhem (Bluesteel)
ALPHA OMEGA (Cotal)
The Continuum (Jaws)
Weekly Galaxy News (Nand1)
The Galactic Conquistador's Almanac (Obi Wan)
GalCiv Gazette (Obi Wan)
The Sophisticated Dame (Evil Steve)
The Metaverse Review (Gerakken)
The Anomolous Times (couslee)
The Propaganda Machine (vincible)
Metaverse Chronicle (Solitair)
The Galactic Weekly Telegraph (Mayito7777)
The Universal Redactor (General Tacticus)
The Universe and You (Mayito7777)
Middle Universe Crier (Grathocke)
The Metaverse Enquirer (arobertson) LOL
The Metaverse Free Press (Hairy the Taco) A last second submission!

I want to thank all of you for your great ideas. This is going to be a difficult decision. Since it is so difficult, I'd like to actually ask the opinions of three people who haven't weighed in on this, but who are impartial enough to be good judges.

Would Pontius, CariElf, and Frogboy please give me your one choice of these to be the new name of the Fellowship News? I will give you an hour so if you're not on the net, you have some time.

Thanks!

Hmmm...no responses, yet. Pontius? I know you're hanging out around here somewhere!

Can somebody check the chatroom and ask CariElf and Frogboy to check this thread? I'm at work and can't chat. :(

I just came from the chat room a few min ago, and there were no other ppl there. I think IRC had a crash or something.

The forum ATE my last post. it was to the effect of:

I will give you an hour so if you're not on the net, you have some time.
End of quote

LMAO LOL LOL. you have plenty of time, just hurry the hell up.

LOL

That did sound bad, didn't it?

I think I'll just give this until tomorrow at 2:00 PM to give Pontius, CariElf and Frogboy a little more time.

Actually, I'm going to narrow the choices down a bit. If I don't I'll just get three different answers and then I'll be in the same boat.

From reading the posts, I got the most feedback from:

The Propaganda Machine (vincible)

I'm also rather fond of:

Hyperion News Network (Qui-Gon)
and
The Metaverse Review (Gerakken)

for good measure, I'll add one more:

The Metaverse Free Press (Hairy the Taco)

Oh, email is [email protected]

Oh, I am so disappointed (:( . I thought my suggestion was by far and away the only one that should be given consideration. ;p If we could vote, I would stuff the ballot box, buy a few votes, bring in a few dead voters. Ooops. Sorry, I forgot I don't live in Louisiana anymore. LOL

The Metaverse Review is a pretty good name.

BTW, we hope by this Winter or Spring of next year that Empires will be able to have blogs and such. There will be much to talk about by then. ;)

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a blog?

A typical blog is run by one person, who frequently (sometimes daily) posts updates about whatever he wants to write about.

Some of the most famous ones deal with politics. Some influential pundits post blogs with their analyses of current events. There was an Iraqi blogger who posted from Baghdad during the war who drew enormous interest. And so on. Others just have to do with the life of the blogger--people talking about their jobs, their thoughts on family, or whatever.

I'm not sure how an empire blog would be much different from our current communications threads.

We already have empire channels in the IRC. #jedi_republic, #mwc, #fellowship.

The most recent post would be at the top? LOL LOL

A blog is permanent, like a web site, and generally has high-quality writing, not chat.

Example: that Iraqi blogger I mentioned

So I guess i should hold off on doing up a web page for the ANZAC's :)

and don't forget the #ANZACS (Case SENSATIVE) on irc.stardock.com not many ppl use it... we seem to prefer to stay on #GalCiv

My late vote is for THE GALACTIC GAZETTE, Your source for all your Metaverse Mayhem.

Ok I cheated and combined two. One in the title and one in the paper's motto. So sue me.

sorry for the lateness... I wasn't lurking. Fevers of 106, 104, respectively round my household. I'm the only one with anything left.... Cook diswasher, medicine, 7up runner etc.....time for sleep.
