But this is still another beta. And it appears you have to have a drengin account to get it. This is in slight contrast to what I have read. Is it going to be just the final X-pack that is provided at no charge? Plz explain.

You need to subscribe to Drengin to get the beta, but the full release will be available for everyone to dl once the testing is done, soon I hope.

I suggest you save your endgames and resubmit as many games under the new version as soon as you get the free exp pack.

Now, that would be a REAL cheese tactic. LOL Why didn't I think of it? ;)

I've saved all my endgames for just this reason. I saw the differences between 1.03 and 1.05 and knew when the new changes came out, it would make a difference.

Same here. And I confess that I resubmitted 2 games to get the higher scores. I can sympathise with those who feel that this is a cheese tactic, but really it was a no-brainer to plan ahead and save all my endgames.

By resubmitting scores, I am only getting the scores that the architects of the game feel I should have gotten in the first place. This is not cheese. It may seem unfair to some who did not plan ahead, I'm sorry, but what does their lack of planning have to do with me? As stated earlier this was done before. No one should be claiming surprise. :p

Would anyone here send back a retroactive tax cut to the government? :)

Qui-Gon,

That's exactly how I feel. I'm not actually going back and playing the game a different way to achieve better results. I'm just resubmitting the same game with different scoring rules implemented. So I don't really see that much cheese. And really, I'm only going to see a difference on a little more than half of my games because the only games that are changing are the ones above Normal difficulty. And the differences should be very small, since Challenging is only one step above Normal. I doubt it will even give me 1000 more points.

You can only update your score one time with a saved game. So if you've already submitted it previously, you won't be able to do it again. It will use the existing score.

I don't quite understand your logic here, Blue. According to what Frogboy stated, scores are not penalized under the new version, i.e. the beginner level scores were not nerfed

Actually they went from 4.1 to 3.6 on the multiplier (I don't have the numbers in front of me) or something like that on beginner.... A very slight nerf. Above that was enhanced. (again I don't have the numbers in front of me. It's in another thread.

Personally, I think anything played from this day forward, we on 1.05 should save at the end turn and then be able to upgrade when we get access to the new game. I don't think that's cheesy at all. Now games played prior to this date? Hmmmm Now we go from white to grey. I don't think I'll be arguing to upgrade those. But That levels the playing field somewhat even though the 1.09ers still have a big advantage on us due to the quicker tech discovery.

But I see your point blue. On the other hand, I'm sure Stardock wants to provide incentive for 30bux drengin net... Soooooo. this is one way to do that.

I have never been a proponent in general of upgrading cross version except for the defective 1.044 scores, which I upgraded to 1.05. But in the case I outlined above, I think it's ok. Each of you will have to decide the ethics of it for yourselves.

The idea that "this is what the devs thought we should have had in the first place" is logically invalid. I doubt if the scores were going to get lower, you'd be lobying so hard on the ethics of upgrading. In fact, you wouldn't upgrade nor would you even make such an argument. And in fact, Many would argue to keep playing the old version. Take the 1.035 version. It considerably nerfed scores vs the 1.02. Did you upgrade your 1.02 to 1.035 because 1.035 (at the time was obviously the score the devs really intended.? That answer is no. Of course later Stardock nerfed the tar out of the both of em. But that's irrelevant to the issue.

It's cheese. But it's cheese those of us who don't have the new version yet are going to have to pull to stay even close to competitive. with those that do. Just admit it and move on.

Yes, I've only submitted all of my games once. I'm actually kind of torn between doing it now and waiting until everybody else gets the XPack. The savegames aren't going anywhere and it's only a couple of weeks. That way it wouldn't seem so cheesy, as some think. ;)

First off, if it is a score the architects feel you should have, then they should (and probably will) adjust the current Metaverse scores already submitted. Secondly, I JUST GOT THE (&%((^% game, so your "lack of planning" comment don't fly. One of the things that prompted me to buy the game is the fantastic CS that this board is full of. Why would anyone, new or otherwise, think they should have to save a bunch of old games?

Don't get me wrong, it really is not that big a deal to me, I was just chiming in my .02 on the topic.

If they do a recalc of the scores submtted (which I feel is not illogical), it would eliminate the need for resubmission (and hanging onto old cobweb saves).

Oh it will still be cheesy. Am I gonna do it? Yes. to the mild Moterey Jack extent above. Will I get even cheesier and pull out the sharp cheddar and update ALL my old games? Well yes if too many do it.
I own up to my Swiss.

I was only joking! Boy, we are all getting a little testy about the cheese factor these days. Since I am relatively new to the game, about a month and a half and hadn't had any experience with previous versions of the game, the thought never occurred to me. Paraphrasing my own self, I wish I had thought of that! (:(

BTW, "Cheese", as I used I refers to something extra added. "Would you like cheese on that burger?" :)

First off, I'd like to say that I fully respect the opinions of all who disagree with me. I enjoy a good healthy debate on these subjects, and I hope that those who disagree with me feel the same. :)

When I made the statement above, I overstated things a bit. I do not know, or claim to know the intentions of the game designers. It was a mistake to imply that I do. Poor choice of words on my part.

However, I still do not feel that this is a cheese. I played the game, I got to resubmit it one time, just like everyone else can. If you don't have the beta, you can wait a few weeks and do it with the free exp pack.

Good point, but.... I have a lot of games, too, that I cannot resubmit because I didn't know any better when I first started. So we both have a number of games under old scoring system. I have 10 of these. You have 4. Sounds pretty fair to me.

What I was saying, what would be fair would be to recalc the Metaverse when the X-pack comes out, that way no one will have to mess with/worry about/lodge complains because of........this

Taking a beta, which part of that is balancing, and allowing those scores to compete with non-beta scores I find an odd position to take in the first place.

I still probably won't keep endgame saves. I am neurotic when it comes to junk on my HD.

Totally agree. We don't know how much extra work/money is involved for the good folks at stardock to do this, though.

Enter my idea for a "donate to the metaverse" link. :big toothless grandpa grin: (j/k, I still have all my choppers)

couslee, there is a difference between a Metaverse recalc and resubmitting games. The score you get from a game is based on the scoring formula that is coded in the game. When a recalc occurs, it is my impression that the submitted scores are adjusted by the degradation formula, etc.

So these are actually two different things. By resubmitting the score, the game actually rescores your game based on the new formula supplied by the beta/Xpack.

I could be totally wrong, here, but that was my impression of how things go on here.
Theoden, I was thinking that a developer would actually have to sit down and create some kind of new database code that would apply the new "in game" scores to all the pre-expansion pack scores. Not a routine thing at all, and thus, the added out-of-pocket expense for Stardock.

It's also possible that the game info that is submitted to metaverse does not contain enough information to acurately recalc the scores based on the "in game" formula. ;)

Good points, hadn't thought about that (lack of info submitted).

I wonder how many resubmitted scores are going to get an anomolous tag.....hmmm

what i'm on about is that if ppl don't upgrade from 1.05 or any other released version when the xpack comes out ot any further updates then their scores will not be calculated at the same rate as thost running the latest release.. be it higher or lower scores.. I'm not after big scores.. just a level playing field for all

If you still can't follow what i mean i'll try to break it down more.. but i don't really want to go into giving example figures as they are really irrelivent

The only way that i can see that happening is they way i suggested... where the metaverse modifies submitted scores when you submit them.. no mater what version you are running...

Do you see where i'm comming from now ??

Absolutely, I see your point. In a perfect world (meteverse) this is how it would be. But I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to use the latest version if they want to compete in the metaverse, especially if it is free.

That's how it is in any competitive field. You want to compete with the big boys (& girls), get the best equipment.

Blue,

You're running 1.09 I see. Not the newest beta, but still a beta. My scores are all 1.05 and over half of them are eligible for improvement, however small it might be.

There's no reason not to update when the XPack comes out, as it fixes some flaws from 1.05 and is free. If ppl still don't want to update to the XPack, then why drag everyone else down?

I'm not being contentious, I just am curious as to why you are concerned about this. :notsure:

Interesting how important these scores are for people. I REALLY don't care about them, since I don't want to extend the game as long as possible by cashing and let my pop grow to get more points.

To each one his own I guess :HOT:
