Naive Newbie

I'm still ascending the learning curve but love the game and am just starting to post a few scores. However, I have a few naive newbie questions:

1) How are the ranks Lieutenant, Admiral etc. determined?

2) I tried to get my terror star to attack a star sytem (having destroyed all the ships there) but nothing happened when I tried to move it onto the star....

3) If I download mods from the website will my scores still count when I submit them as my game would now be 'non-standard'?

I like the metaverse and the forum seems full of friendly people. :) but I'm still recovering from the Drengins wanting to snuggle me!

Well, I can't help you with the ranking system, but maybe I can offer something to you.
I don't know why your terror star did not attack the star, but I do know that you have to be at war with that race before you can destroy it.
You can download mods and still submit to the Metaverse, but be careful ... too much of something can cause an "Anomalous" score. Too high a PQ and it will trigger an anomalous score, for example.

Those Drengin ... If they are bothering you, I'm sure some of the folks from G.R.O.S.S. can help you fry them up. ;)

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum, Kev. :)

Weird that your Terror Star didn't work. BTW you can destroy all orbiting ships with the TS so no need to take them out first. Note that TS can only destroy habitated stars.

I think it is a known issue that sometimes a newly built terror star can not attack until the turn following its contruction. I've had this happen a few times, and couldn't figure out why I could build & attack in one turn in some cases, but in others could not.

On the turn you build the terror star, it has no movement or 0/1. The next turn it will have 1/1 and you can move it one. If you are right next to a colonized star belong to a race you are at war with, you should be able to move it one (on top of the star system) and totally destroy the star system, inhabitants, and ships. It works for me. Good luck.

Thanks for the fast replies!

I guess I'll just need to experiment a bit more with blasting the aliens with terror stars and work hard on getting those stars and bars. :)
