WinXP Icons dont have transparent background

I dont remember when thi started happening, but my desktop icon text no longer has a transparent background. I get the box around the text that is the same color as a background color selected in the display properties. Ive tried the MS knowledge base solution whihc is to deactivate active desktop, but that didnt work. Im not sure if it is WB or sumthin like that, but any input would be great....thanx

Right-Click on My Computer and choose Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab. Click on Performance Settings and make sure that drop shadows for icon labels is checked.

yea, ive tried that, it didnt work. I really wish i could remember when it started happening, cuz i might be able to pinpoint which/if a program is doing it.

In Display Properties go under Appearance -- click on the "Advanced" - then "Other Advanced Options" (if you have Windowblinds working )button and bring up Icon -- make sure there is no color chosen as a background for Icon. You will bring up the tab where you normally change the Theme and personalize the colors and fonts -- there is a pull down menu with "desktop", "active taskbar" etc. -- that is where you find the menu for Icon. I hope this helps.

thanks for the help, but no luck.....my computer is on the fritz lately. maybe theres just some tweaking somewhere i have to do. but if anyone knows a program notorious for doin this plz help me out. any more suggestions would be great too....thanks

AHA!! i found it....i did a little tweaking, and for all who are interested, go to the desktop tab in the display properties. Then go to the web tab, and make sure lock desktop items is unchecked.....dunno how i get around stuff like this...guess i just get lucky, but thatnks for all the help everyone
