ATTENTION EMPIRES!

Hey gang, here's the deal:

Stardock has created a blogging site called JoeUer.com. A lot of the underlying technology and philosophy of it is based on the GalCiv metaverse.

Right now you can crate your own blog. A blog basically a personal web page in which you can write whatever you want and it shows up on the page.  The features are still being added in. Today is the first day where you can actually create your own blog in real time.

Here's how: Go to JoeUser.com and logon using your GalCiv account info. Then click on the "account" tab at the very top and it'll let you create your own blog right then and there. You can start putting in articles right away.

Where things get interesting: In a week or so, we'll be adding in Blog Groups. Think of these as being empires in GalCiv.  Your blogs would combine together.

Example: Say Ray the Wanderer creates ray.joeuser.com and he can use that to write about whatever and they appear there.   Then say ricbayer joins up and has ricbayer.joeuser.com.  Now, Ray can create a blog gropu called say Fellowship of the ring which would be say fellowship.joeuser.com.  All members of Fellowship of the Ring would have their postings combined. In this way the "empire" works as a team. You can share stories, create strategies, show pictures of what you've done.

We don't have the blog groups part done nor do we have the usual personalization features (photo albums, resumes, links, etc.). That's coming in the next few weeks. Creating a blog on the fly creating your own domain at the same time was the tough part which is what we just got done.

Give it a try.

Have fun!

Cool, Draginol (Brad) made a comment on my first blog post already.
I think this feature is going to be a lot of fun. :)

Yea it's going to get really cool. Wait until all this stuff is integrated together. Your GalCiv acocutns and empire pages will be seamlessly integrated with your JoeUser stuff.

Oh I see, all blog posts are put under 12 categories ranging from blogging to gaming to personal relationships, etc. Otherwise you can go to a personal blog page and just read posts from one person.

I think that's right, isn't it? I'm a blog newbie.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the point?

Well, I think the point is instead of making galactic form filled up with empire thread, you could have your own empire thread through blog...

but most of the readings are done here. not many people leave here to read about galciv stuff on another website.

What blogs are good for is that it's a lot easier for someone to create a blog than to start their own website.

Before posting a bunch of "test" posts I suggest reading a few of the existing blogs to see what people do:

draginol.joeuser.com

joe.joeuser.com

tandis.joeuser.com

Is there any way I can change my user settings to show a blog's comments by default?

I can't think of anything to post on a blog yet, but I'm keen to see what happens with JoeUser...

Quack: That is something already in the pipeline. I feel the same way. Want to see comments hwen I click on an article. Dont' like having to click twice.

Theoden's Metaverse Review can be transferred to Joeuser blog. Especially if we can also post pictures.

metaversereview.joeuser.com

I'm thinking you can post pictures that are stored offsite, Blue.

I haven't figured out how to edit a previous post. Maybe you can't. :notsure:

its ok i've worked out how to edit a prevous post ... just the pici storage.. I know that you can link them to an external site but i have no where to place any. I saw some blogs that have their pici's stored localy

I've got the editing down, now too! Don't know about the storage. I've got webspace, so that's where I am going to keep mine.

Have you thought about signing up for a free webspace provider, like Angelfire or Geocities?
