ESS DARK EVE Captain’s Log 12-JUL: Urban Legends: Part I
No one knows Dark Assassin’s past, a past shrouded in myth as a legend past down by his men. No one has claimed to seen his true face, or at least anyone that is still alive to describe it. It is said that he truly knows darkness; darkness is the only thing that gives him purpose, its all he lives for: to strike fear in the hearts of those unfortunate few who find themselves crossing his path, those who never see the light of day again. Legends are just that: legends, but Dark Assassin (DA) is no legend. He is as real has Ray the Wanderer or HairytheTaco, but since no one has claimed to seen his true face then it leads many to believe that he is fiction, a bedtime story to scare all the little kids into being afraid of the Evil Empire High Council’s (EEHC) wrath. The following is the first myth of the legendary Dark Assassin.
A Child’s Tale
The EEHC has eyes and ears everywhere; they’re on the wind and in the walls. They know when you do as they say or when you don’t. There is one man you don’t want to know is after you. They say he is as quiet as a mouse, quick on his feet, silent has he slips behind your back and slits your throat or worse yet, takes you aboard his ship, a ship full of misery and suffering. A ship in which you would not likely to escape. No one has seen his face, so no one can save you if he decides that you’re worth killing. So don’t ever curse the EEHC, for you might inherit the fury of DA.
There once was a man, whose name was Johnny. Johnny liked to visit the local tavern and on one fateful night Johnny got drunk off his ass and ended up spilling his guts about the EEHC.
“You know I hate those bureaucrats who run the empire. They think they’re so high and mighty that they can do whatever the hell they want. Treat us common folk like rabid dogs, some one should stand up to them.”
“Like who? You can’t even take a piss without getting the front of your pants wet.” The barkeep laughs.
“That’s not true, see.” Points to his trouser and sees a wet spot. “That could be from anything.”
The barkeep says laughing, “Yeah sure, anything like, your own piss!”
“Well what do you expect I’m drunker than your mom on New Years!”
“Well, the fact remains you need to watch what you say. I won’t tell anyone what is said in here but I wouldn’t trust everyone.”
“C’mon guys you would never tell on me, right?” He gets a round of nods from the other barflies. “Everyone gets a beer on me!” Just then the tavern doors violent swing open to reveal a man whose face, arms, hands, legs, feet, and head covered by a black silk-like fabric. He doesn’t say a word and walks to sit down next to Johnny. Johnny is the curious type who knows everyone who has ever set foot inside this particular bar, says to his new neighbor. “So, friend, what brings you to Hell’s Ridge?” Silence is all that is heard. “Do you hear me? I’m talking to you!”
“I’m I supposed to be impressed, that a lowly peasant can speak?”
“Just who in god’s name do you think you are?”
“The last person you will never see.” In a brilliant move the strange draws a red light saber decapitates Johnny sending his head sprawling into the back. Everyone in the bar was too surprised and scared to budge a muscle fearing that if they do that they too will become a victim of the mystery man who has walked in amongst them. The man stands and drops a 100 credits onto the bar stating, “Thanks for the drink; this should take care of cleaning up the mess.” The man walks out and disappears into the cool night.
