It's either at the back of the cd case or in the email that comes with the download.

Purchasing the game usually provides a valid serial number. If you bought a retail copy and there's no serial, you need to either contact the store you bought it from or the publisher.

And IF it's an illegal copy, of course you don't have a serial number.

But IF the copy is not so legal (read: illegal) you could always try.
