Upgrading while in a game - is this wise?

A few people said their old saves didn't load at all in the new version. Mine loaded, but with a few bugs in it. It still submitted without going anomalous, though.

I'd say finish on the old version.

After upgrading to 1.1, I had a gigantic map save game loading that crashed to desktop just as it finished. No worries on my end though, I do not mind starting over with all the new features.

Hmm, doesn't seem to handle gigantic old games in new version, CTD & weird map display if reload from autosave. Finish on old, then upgrade.

Must be cause the gigantic definiton's been changed. My one that worked was only a tiny. Anyone else have stories to tell about reloading smaller maps?

I can reload up to Medium maps. Large and above fails.

Loaded a large that was in progress and I submitted with no problems. There were some strange things going on in the game though.

Loading a medium game crashed it here. According to the pinned bog report thread, loading old savegames is not recommended; so if you're in a good game finish that first.
I think it would be a good idea to have proper version information in the savegames to avoid such things. Having a dialog box say "sorry, this game cannot be loaded" would be better than the "where are all my strategic resources" moment someone had.

when i loaded me medium, the techs/wonders/trade goods were all very strange (eg already had diplomatic translators but could produce them again)
