How deep is the senate?

I was just wondering how 'deep' the senate voting system is. By that I mean are the votes to different parties just random or do your people vote according to how you empire is doing? Eg. They like how things are going so they vote for you, they hate an empire so they vote for the war party, you are poor so they vote for the feds etc.

Dont know this for a fact but it seems the senate doesnt vote randomly. I've seen them band together on issues and what do ya know...those that voted for or against a particular issue were allied or on good terms.I've seen some vote with me when we were on good terms and against me when we were at war. Seems to me there is some method to the voting AI.

It seems to me that the parties actually represent certain interests. For instance, in some games where I was practically at war with the universe the Pacifist party actually managed to unseat me (I was a Federalist), while the War party didn't have much popularity at all - I guess I stole all their issues ;)

I don't know how the others one work though, and your own party's "votes" only seem to be based upon your approval rating, which seems 100% dependent upon Morale.

Wampyre: That's the UP, not the senate:) I know that isn't random, there's things like "Vote B if evil", "vote C if losing etc" for each event.

Plutarck: Yes, your own votes just seem to be based on morale. I'm hoping the parties do represent certain interests, although I wonder what would make anyone vote for the universists.

Possibly the best place to look is the documentation for the Gaciv Writer.

IIRC, for any given vote you set priorities for the main races. There's a few to choose from, along the lines of....

If evil...pick A
If good but losing... pick one that'll benifit your ally who's winning

and so on.....
