Great game except for bugs

My compliments to Stardock for creating the game I expected MOO3 to be. Great design and interface. I am very excited about playing it.

My gripe is being able to play. After having problems installing (it took almost 10 minutes for the installer to kick in when I inserted the disc. Running it from the start menu only hung the machine) I just started getting addicted to the game when I am plauged by constant CTDs. I know this forum has dealt with this issue ad nauseum but it really ruins a game when I am constantly having to restart because of CTDs. I only had one other game do this and that was the first Diablo, and then only once.

Maybe this has been addressed in the expansion. I hope so because I really would like to play. :sniff!:

I know this is no help, but I do not have ANY CTD's.
Nor did I have any trouble installing it.

I have XP.

Are you playing with the latest update (1.1), Wittman?

The only patch I see on the website is the 1.05 which I downloaded. Where is 1.1 or is that the expansion?

1.1 is the Xpack. In Stardock Central, click Tools and Refresh Application Data. You should see it.

do you have Stardock Central? I think you need to download that first to upgrade to 1.1.

The CTD Bugs I have don't really annoy me since I know how to prevent them. I am more annoyed about exploitable gameplay bugs. Without these the game would be really great but with them it's nothing special... There are so many potenially great games that suffer under some flaws. The good thing about Galciv is that they are still updating it and possibly will fix these flaws. If they'd just listen to me and fix what I say! LOL

Eh, exploitable gameplay bugs mean you can choose not to exploit them, AIL.ST.
Just don't build multiple infuence SBs. Don't rip the Draginol off.

I do agree that they should be fixed if possible but these shouldn't spoil the game for you.

Yeah, you shouldn´t use them but but alas the exploits are there and it is so hard to resist....

Seriously, what are exploits? Ripping of any minor civ when they appear? Getting the spoils of war (Killing a civ and still offer peace for all there money)? Destroying the AI economy through tech sells? Waiting besides a resource to get cleared in a war or gifting dreadnoughts to this fin at the AI? Provoking war if you are superior getting paid for peace rinse repeat? luring defenders out of starsystem? Culture bombs because the AI isn´t able to recognise the danger of culture starbases?

All of these things you can label exploits because a human being wouldn´t fall for them.

@Midnightsun: The AI does indeed recognize the danger of culture Starbases, they even talked to me because of that. But immediatly after declaring war I could sign a peace treaty.

But in general I agree with you. When I play the game I am the Emperor of mankind. I am always trying to make the best possible decisions for my empire!

I had to rush the Alexians and later elimnate Carinoids and Drengin because that was the only choice I had if I did not want the Altarians to do it.
I also wanted to conquer the Yor but I could not because they were Allied with the Altarians!
What would you do? Attack anyways and see how you get wiped out? Sit back and see how the Altarians become stronger and stronger until they think it's time for you to die? No! You would also try to culturebomb the Yor because it is the best choice for your empire!Even if Culture SBs would work as they should. This would not be an exploit!
Not using this exploit would take any chance to win away!
And when the Yor declare a war on me that because of their Ally would mean my death, you cannot blame me for using the exploit of offering peace! I would have given them some things but if they accept for abolutely nothing, so why shall I not do the same?

As for the Draginol Ray is probably right. In reality I would not act like I did and not have come to unlimited money. If they show up again before a patch were that is fixed, I will not exploit em again because this made the rest of the game sensless and short.

@AIL.ST.: I agree with you that the Draginol is an extreme example for an exploit.
On the other hand every time a new minor civ appears they have around 4000 Credits. After seeing the other AI´s taking advantage of the poor guys, getting the minors money anyway, now I am always the first in extorting money. Selling them tradegoods & techs though they are broke for the rest of the game. Unforunatly they have no other impact on the game then paying for my always overblown industry.
Perhaps it would be nice if new minor appears it has right away a defensive fleet to prevent "stealing" the minors money in the first round?

I don't know why you complaint about the Draginol, I have played 61 games and had not seen the Draginol yet.

@Mayito7777- I bet you play wiuth the luck pick? Luck seems to prevent a lot of interesting random events.

Yeah, maybe that is the reason, I din't think about that. I use a lot of research, diplomacy and luck.
